Communication between the Becker® MAP PILOT (NAVBOX45) control unit and the vehicle takes place using the interface software. The navigation mode is implemented through the navigation software and the firmware. The map data required for navigation are filed on the internal device memory. An SD card with updated map data can also be used for navigation. The map data stored on the SD card have a higher priority than the map data of the internal device memory. The map data cannot be transferred from the SD card to the internal device memory.

Operating instructions

The operator's manual in the form of a PDF file is stored on the Becker® MAP PILOT (NAVBOX45) control unit. To view the operator's manual, the Becker® MAP PILOT (NAVBOX45) control unit must be connected to a suitable PC via the USB interface using the supplied USB connecting cable. The operator's manual can also be downloaded at www.beckermappilot.com or purchased in printed form from the parts service under a corresponding B6 part number . Additional information is available in the ODUS system of MercedesBenz Accessories GmbH.

Update the interface software through XENTRY Diagnostics

The interface software on the Becker® MAP PILOT (NAVBOX45) control unit can only be updated using XENTRY Diagnostics via the CAN bus. As usual the software is automatically provided via XENTRY Diagnostics and it can be updated via the menu item Adaptations  Control unit programming.

Updating of the map data, navigation software and firmware via the Becker® Content Manager

Using the Becker® Content Manager

The navigation software and firmware on the Becker® MAP PILOT (NAVBOX45) control unit, and the map data can only be updated on the PC using the Becker® Content Manager. For customers and dealers

Updating of the navigation software and firmware via the Becker® Content Manager can be conducted by the dealer responsible for the vehicle or by the customer himself.

The map data can also be updated through the Becker® Content Manager. The map data can be updated free of charge up to 60 days after the system has been put into service in the vehicle. The customer is to be notified of this 60day deadline when handing over a new vehicle. An extension of this 60day deadline after the in-service date is no longer possible. If requested by the customer, an update of the map data can be performed by the dealer during this time period. A cost settlement through warranty or goodwill is not possible.

After expiry of the 60day deadline, map data updates can be downloaded chargeable through the Becker® Content Manager in the Webshop. A credit card is required here for payment purposes.

As an alternative to the chargeable map update through the Becker® Content Manager, MercedesBenz Accessories also offers map data on an SD card for various national versions. Further information is available in the ODUS system of MercedesBenz Accessories GmbH.

It should be noted that the inserted SD card is not recognized by the Becker® Content Manager. Therefore, when using the Becker® Content Manager, a message may be issued declaring that the map data on the Becker® MAP PILOT (NAVBOX45) control unit is obsolete, despite the map data on the SD card being up to date.

Preconditions and time required

For navigation, the Becker® MAP PILOT (NAVBOX45) control unit must remain inserted in the mount in the vehicle, otherwise the data will not be transferred to the radio.

The time required for an update of the navigation software, firmware or map data using the Becker® Content Manager may last for several hours. This is dependent on the required content and the bandwidth of the Internet connection.

If more than one Becker® MAP PILOT (NAVBOX45) control unit with the same contents (Becker® Content Manager, operator's manual as PDF, firmware) is to be updated, the contents do not need to be downloaded to the PC multiple times.

System check

XENTRY Diagnostics is required to check the system components of the Becker® MAP PILOT, the line connection as well as navigation mode. Various tests are available in Xentry Diagnostics.

Special tools (e.g. a test card) are not necessary.
