Modification notes
13.5.09 | Validity limitations added. | Steps 3 and 5
Read off the pressure value at full load on the ALB plate, added. | Step 4 |
| Checking | ||
1 | Park vehicle on a level surface and secure with wheel chocks to prevent it from rolling away
2 | Connect test pressure gauge | Required connections: Test connection for rear axle combination brake cylinder (1) Test connection for front axle single-circuit diaphragm brake cylinder (2) Test connection for reservoir pressure/tire filling connection ( 3)
| |||
3 | Unhook linkage of ALB controller, raise and fix in position in full-load position | Only for vehicles with steel suspension and without code (BB1) Brake control (BS) or without code (BB8) Brake control (BS) with ASR.
4 | Read off the pressure value at full load on the ALB plate. | Only for vehicles with air suspension and without code (BB1) Brake control (BS) or without code (BB8) Brake control (BS) with ASR.
5 | Using an adjustable pressure reducing valve at connection 43 of the ALB controller, regulate the pressure achievable at full-load | Only for vehicles with air suspension and without code (BB1) Brake control (BS) or without code (BB8) Brake control (BS) with ASR.
6 | Release parking brake
Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
7 | Start engine and completely inflate air brake system with idle speed
8 | Turn off engine | ||
9 | After 5 minutes using the brake pedal jack on the service brake, introduce a partial braking up to a pressure of approx. 3.5 bar | Due to the technical equipment on the vehicle, a pressure drop can occur after switching off the engine, caused by ancillary consumers (e.g. due to the after-blowing process of the BlueTec exhaust aftertreatment system). In order not to evaluate this pressure drop at the same time, the waiting time of 5 minutes must be maintained. Getting in or out during the test should be avoided.
| |||
10 | After 1 minute read off the pressure on the test connection for reservoir pressure/tire inflation connection (3) | The waiting time is required in order not to evaluate at the same time possible pressure reductions due to the natural settling process of the compressed air components.
11 | After another 3 minutes, read off the pressure on the test connection for reservoir pressure/tire inflation connection (3) | Permissible pressure loss
Is the pressure loss higher than permissible:
Identify and eliminate leakage.
12 | Lift up fixing on linkage of ALB controller and hook up linkage again | Only for vehicles with steel suspension and without code (BB1) Brake control (BS) or without code (BB8) Brake control (BS) with ASR.
13 | Detach adjustable pressure reducing valve at connection 43 of ALB controller | Only for vehicles with air suspension and without code (BB1) Brake control (BS) or without code (BB8) Brake control (BS) with ASR.
14 | Detach all test pressure gauges |
