5

Detach fuel feed hose (2) and fuel supply hose (3) of high-pressure pump from fuel filter (4)

Do not use pointed or sharp-edged tools for detaching.
The fuel feed hose (2) and fuel supply hose (3) will otherwise be damaged.

Removal:
Vehicles with ENGINE 646Loosen the fuel feed hose (2) and fuel supply hose (3) by turning by hand (do not use any sharp-edged pliers), or push them off the fitting using a blunt object (plastic wedge) or a blunt or broad-edged tool.
The fuel-resistant inner coating will otherwise be damaged, causing outward leakage of the low-pressure fuel hose. Detached hose particles can clog the cooling and lubricating throttle of the high-pressure pump. The return flow quantity of the high-pressure pump can decrease as a result, impairing the function of the suction jet pump in the tank right half of the tank runs empty.

Installation:
Do not use screw clamps or spring bracket clamps.
Otherwise leaks may occur.

Installation: Replace CLIC clamps (A).

Collect any escaping fuel with an absorbent rag.

Check fuel feed hose (2) and fuel supply hose (3) for damage. If necessary,

replace the fuel feed hose (2) and fuel supply hose (3) subject to a separate repair order.

6

Loosen bolt (5) or lever up clip (6) and remove fuel filter (4) upwards

ENGINE 646.8
Installation: Before closing the brackets (6), align the longitudinal axis of the fitting (2a) with the marking (arrow) on the bracket (7).

Check

Danger !

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
