To improve customer satisfaction in relation to the navigation module (A2/30) Becker® MAP PILOT, we would like to draw your attention to the following procedure for technical queries and handling updates for map data and software.
System components
The navigation module (A2/30) contains several software modules, which have to be updated using different interfaces and tools. The following illustration shows the structure of the navigation module (A2/30):
P82.61-4153-78
Communication between the navigation module (A2/30) and the vehicle is through the interface software. The navigation mode is implemented through the navigation software and the firmware. The map data required for navigation are filed on the internal device memory. An SD card with map data can be used for navigation. The latest map data are used for the navigation system, irrespective of whether the data are on the SD-card or on the internal memory. The map data cannot be transferred from the SD card to the internal device memory.
Operator's manual
The operator's manual is stored as a PDF file on the navigation module (A2/30). To view the operator's manual the module has to be connected through the USB interface to a PC. Alternatively, the operator's manual can also be downloaded at www.beckermappilot.com. The operator's manual is available in printed form for ordering through a B6 part number in GLC. Additional information is available in the ODUS system of MercedesBenz Accessories GmbH.
Update the interface software through XENTRY Diagnostics
The interface software located on the navigation module (A2/30) can only be updated using XENTRY Diagnostics over the CAN bus. The software is made available in the usual way through XENTRY Diagnostics, and it can be updated through the menu item Adaptations Control unit programming.
Using the Becker® Content Manager
The navigation software, firmware and map data located on the navigation module (A2/30) can only be updated on the PC through the Becker® Content Manager. This is saved on the navigation module (A2/30) and - alternatively - it can be downloaded from the Becker® Webshop at www.beckermappilot.com.
To use the Becker® Content Manager a commercially available PC with Microsoft® Windows®, Internet connection and approx. 10 GB of free memory are required. A Mac OS X version of the Becker® Content Manager is also available. The installation and updating of the Becker® Content Manager requires Administrator rights, both for Windows and for Mac OS X.
Any queries on the Becker® Content Manager or on any problems that arise during the update procedure can be handled by the Becker Hotline. The contact data are available at www.beckermappilot.com. A list of FAQs is also located there, it contains the answers to the most frequently asked questions.
Update to the navigation software, firmware and map data through the Becker® Content Manager
The navigation software and firmware can be updated through the Becker® Content Manager. This update can be conducted by the supporting dealer or by the customer himself. The update is free of charge.
The map data can also be updated through the Becker® Content Manager. The map data can be updated free of charge for up to 60 days after the in-service date of the navigation module (A2/30) in the vehicle. The customer is to be notified of this 60day deadline when handing over a new vehicle. An extension of this 60day deadline after the in-service date is no longer possible. If requested by the customer the update of the map data can be performed by the dealer. A cost settlement through warranty or goodwill is not possible. After expiry of the 60day deadline, map data updates can be downloaded chargeable through the Becker® Content Manager in the Webshop. A credit card is required here for payment purposes.
As an alternative to the chargeable map update through the Becker® Content Manager, MercedesBenz Accessories also offers map data on an SD card for various national versions. Further information is available in the ODUS system from MercedesBenz Accessories GmbH.
It should be noted that the inserted SD card is not recognized by the Becker® Content Manager. Therefore, when using the Becker® Content Manager, a message may be issued declaring that the map data on the navigation module (A2/30) are obsolete, despite the map data on the SD card being up-to-date.
The time required for an update of the navigation software, firmware or map data using the Becker® Content Manager may last for several hours. This is dependent on the required content and the bandwidth of the Internet connection. If several navigation modules (A2/30) are to be updated with the same content, it is not necessary to download the content onto the PC.
