Function Diagnosis
A function diagnosis is available for the first time and it covers the following systems:
Energy management
ECO start-stop
CAN bus
Ethernet - Diagnostics over Internet Protocol (DoIP)
The new V-Class will be equipped for the first time with en Ethernet vehicle interface for installing large volumes of data into the telematics. The high bandwidth enables speedy control unit programming for the Digital Owner's Manual and the function software for the MOST components (Audio/COMAND, sound system and the DAB tuner). Control unit programming of the function software also requires a Regio-DVD. It is distributed together with the XENTRY Diagnostics Update (DVD or XENTRY Kit BD). It should be noted here that the multiplexer is only supported from system number 40000 DoIP onwards. The device bears the inscription "SDConnect DolP" on the rear. None of this needs to be considered for XENTRY Connect.

FUG 40 - Operating fluids
Automatic transmission fluid
Only automatic transmission fluid with specification 236.15 may be used. The color of the oil has changed from red to blue.
The blue oil must not be used in older transmissions.
More detailed information is found in AP27.00-S-2702E.

Injectors
Only solenoid valve controlled injectors are installed in the models available.
Remove injectors using a special tool (651 589 01 33 00 Extraction claw).
FG 27 - Automatic transmission
FUG 00 - General
Automatic transmission oil and oil filter change
To improve the oil supply for the new automatic transmission the oil pan and the overflow pipe have been re-designed.
Because of this, when changing the oil, the oil pan has to be removed and the overflow pipe has to be replaced using a special tool (722 589 03 15 00 Drift). These steps are necessary to ensure that all the gear oil is drained off. The relevant work instructions (AP27.00-S-2702E) must be observed here.
FUG 60 - Shift mechanism, control system
On vehicles with code FA8 (AGILITY SELECT switch), it should be noted that adaptation of the automatic transmission shift operations is carried out exclusively in drive programs "E" and "C". An adaptation in the "M" or "S" transmission modes would mean that either no adaptation values or incorrect adaption values are stored.
FG 40 - Wheels, wheel alignment check
FUG 00 - General
Wheel Replacement, Lifting, Lowering
The new V-Class is equipped with an electric parking brake (EFB). The combination of the following features is unique in the market:
EFB,
Rear wheel drive,
Automatic transmission or manual transmission,
Semi-trailing arm design of rear axle.
If, after lifting the vehicle, the rear wheels are to be detached or work is to be carried out on the drivetrain (propeller shaft etc.), then the vehicle must be raised (or lowered, where applicable) without stressing the drivetrain. Therefore, the following information must be noted in workshop operation for all vehicles equipped with EFB:
For vehicles with manual transmission, the neutral gear must be engaged when lifting the vehicle.
For vehicles with automatic transmission, the "N" gear position must be engaged when lifting the vehicle. Due to the fact that after switching off the engine and opening the driver door, irrespective of the currently engaged gear range, the "P" range is automatically engaged, it is necessary - when the driver door is open, the brake pedal operated and the key inserted - to manually select the "N" gear range. The key must not then be removed after doing so, because if it is removed then the "P" gear range is automatically engaged.
With the vehicle lowered and gear range "N" still engaged or the neutral gear engaged, the wheel bolts not yet tightened to the specified value can then be tightened without the need for any further measures.
FG 42 - Brakes - Hydraulic and mechanical components
FUG 20 - Parking brake
Electronic parking brake
To do so, the following information must be observed:
Assembly Position and Calibration
In the operations listed below, the electronic parking brake must be moved using the diagnostic system into the assembly position. After completing the work the diagnostic system must deactivate the assembly position again and a calibration then has to be made. The ignition key must not be removed whilst performing repair work because the electric parking brake always fully engages automatically when the key is removed. Similarly, the electric parking brake switch must not be pressed as otherwise the assembly position is deactivated.
Replace electric parking brake (EFB) control unit (A13),
Replace brake disks on rear axle,
Replace brake shoes on parking brake,
Adjust or replace brake cables,
Remove/install semi-trailing arms on rear axle.
Bed in the brakes after replacing brake disks of rear axle or brake shoes on parking brake
To do so, the electric parking brake (EFB) control unit (A13) must have been properly calibrated. The bedding in can then be performed in the driving or dynamometer mode. Information test procedures and menu items for the diagnostic system have to be processed for normalization to succeed.
Safety information
The information, warnings, rules of conduct and safety precautions must be observed for all work on the EFB.
Otherwise injuries and damage may occur.
Unhooking the brake cables at the connecting point, or unplugging the actuator, is not permissible.
Damage may occur otherwise.
FG 49 - Exhaust system
The exhaust system contains a near-engine mounted oxicat followed immediately by a diesel particulate filter (DPF). Depending on the pollutant class involved, a main and a rear muffler or two SCR catalytic converters and a rear muffler are installed.
FG 54 - Electrical system, equipment and instruments
FUG 00 - General

Power supply on V-Class
The on-board electrical system battery (G1) with battery sensor (B95), backup battery (G1/12) or Emergency-P battery (G1/13) are mounted in the seat base on the passenger side. Directly in front of them is the prefuse box (F1).
The support battery (G1/12) assumes the DC/DC converter's function for the startup phase period (a few milliseconds) and ensures constant (supported) on-board electrical system voltage when the engine is restarted. The backup battery (G1/12) is monitored by the signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit (N10/1) and charged through a relay.
The Emergency-P battery (G1/13) on vehicles with TRANSMISSION 722.9 and without CODE MJ8 (ECO start/stop function) replaces the backup battery (G1/12), to ensure by means of "shift-by-wire" at any given time that even when the on-board electrical system battery (G1) malfunctions, c change can still be made into the "P" gear range.
The advanced alternator management is available in the V-Class as standard. This contributes to a reduction in fuel consumption as well as CO2 emissions. When the charge level is high enough, the alternator's charging function is switched off and the on-board electrical system is supplied by the battery. The battery is charged in deceleration mode or depending on the battery's charge level, which is permanently monitored.
The fuse assignment diagram is located in the print copy of the vehicle operator's manual.
Power supply on Marco Polo
The standard 12 V 80 Ah auxiliary battery of the Marco Polo is positioned underneath the driver's seat and supplies consumers in the rear passenger compartment.
As soon as the 230 V mains connection is available, the auxiliary battery is supplied with power via the external connection.
The auxiliary battery's charger is located behind the service flap underneath the refrigerator box. As soon as the 230 V mains connection is established, the charger operates fully automatically. The additional battery is also charged via the alternator of the engine. The charge level as well as the charging capacity are shown in the display unit central electronics (N10/17). Additionally, the charger supports the on-board electrical system battery (G1). This is a supporting charge. The on-board electrical system battery (G1) is not fully charged.

Backup camera
The reversing camera (RFK) control unit (B84/5) is integrated into the reversing camera. The reversing camera is an optical parking and maneuvering aid. It is responsible for recording the area surrounding the vehicle at the rear, generating dynamic and static guide lines, and for sending picture signals to the radio display. The picture signals recorded by the reversing camera are accordingly processed and corrected. The current driving path is calculated based on the vehicle dimensions, ground speed and the rotation angle.
The camera cover can be opened for cleaning the camera lens, using the operating menu of the radio (Audio/COMAND) (N87/6); no picture is displayed in this case. The radio (Audio/COMAND) (N87/6) transmits the request "Service mode" to the reversing camera. The path of the signal is the same as that for automatic opening of the camera cover. During a calibration procedure, camera cover remains open for the duration of the calibration even after the camera function has been deactivated.
When replacing the reversing camera calibration is not necessary because calibration takes place automatically during a journey.

A ''door module'' is installed on the front door in the new V-Class. This ''door module'' acts as a carrier for all components that are installed in the front door. All other information required for repair work is available in the work instructions (AR72.10-S-0900E).
FUG 16 - Sliding doors
Service mode
When working on the electrically operated sliding door (2) a service mode may be activated, differing here form the WIS documentation. This enables the electric sliding door (2) to be moved to any position. This makes repair work easier. To activate it, the service mode has to be set by the diagnostic system, and then manually confirmed by operating the door lock (1) (arrows).
Automatic reserving function
If the sliding door (2) automatic reversing function is actuated for approx. 40 s, then the sliding door (2) electric drive is switched off. In this case, the sliding door (2) must be opened manually and must remain open for at least 40 s. To activate the electric drive of the sliding door (2), the sliding door (2) has to be manually closed.
Active fastening device of sliding door
The active fastening device locks the sliding door (2) in its open end position. As a result, the open sliding door (2) remains in its end position even on inclines. To close, the sliding door (2) must be unlocked using the door handle. The active fastening device is installed as standard on vehicles with rear seating.

FUG 70 Manual pop-up roof
Code ZK9 (Pop-up roof) with code ZK8 (Roof bed) of Marco Polo
The pop-up roof made of glass fiber reinforced plastic and painted in the same color as the vehicle is available as standard for the Marco Polo. The pop-up roof is available in two versions. The Marco Polo has a manual pop-up roof as standard; it is optionally available with an electric drive. The roof is raised at the front, is supported along each longitudinal side by a pneumatic spring and is locked in the end position (raised position). At the rear, the pop-up roof is guided by quadruple cross struts. The pop-up roof lift height has been increased by approx. 100 mm at the rear due to optimized cross struts construction. When the pop-up roof is in its raised position, more space is available for the rear part of the roof bed.
The boot between the pop-up roof and the vehicle body is made of a newly developed breathable, water-repellent and opaque plastic fabric with integral rods for guiding the boot when the pop-up roof is being closed. The boot is permanently attached to the body and the roof shell.
When opening and closing, please note that a window must be opened (e. g. driver's window) because otherwise the pop-up roof boot can become wedged in the pop-up cross struts and damaged.
On the right and left, the Marco Polo has aluminum profiles with integrated roof strip. These profiles serve both as roof drip moldings and as mounts for an awning (accessories).
Two mounting rails are integrated into the pop-up roof for the mounting roof rack. The roof rack must be purchased from Westphalia accessory outlets.
When closed, the pop-up roof can support a max. load of 50 kg. The overall vehicle height is 1980 mm when the pop-up roof is closed and 2839 mm when the pop-up roof is open. When the pop-up roof is raised, the max. floor-to-ceiling height is 2350 mm, decreasing to 1330 mm towards the load compartment.
The roof bed integrated in the pop-up roof is lowered and raised manually. The roof bed is designed for a distributed load of 160 kg and provides a surface of approx. 2000 mm x 1100 mm. The mattress of the roof bed is made of high-quality cold foam and lies on a "Lattoflex" slatted support. The slatted support consists of special point-elastic spring elements and ensures pleasant lying comfort and optimum air circulation. A safety net which serves as fall protection and is fixed between the roof bed and the headliner is fitted as standard at the front. An LED reading lamp is also fitted in the pop-up roof on the right and left.

FUG 20 Interior illumination
Marco Polo lighting concept
The Marco Polo lighting concept has been optimized in terms of consumption and usefulness. Conventional light sources have been replaced by LED technology and so the auxiliary battery is spared when the vehicle is stationary.
In order to improve comfort and usefulness in poor light conditions, reading lights have been installed at several points. Two reading lamps with switch are located to the right and left of the roof stowage box and provide optimum lighting in the lower area when the lying surface is in use. Furthermore, a lamp with two separately controllable reading spotlights is installed in front of the roof stowage box. They allow the two seats to be illuminated independently while the vehicle is in motion.
Central lamps, each approx. 16 cm wide, have been positioned above the kitchen floor cabinet unit and sliding door for optimum illumination of the living area and cooking unit. They are controlled by means of an integrated switch with dimmer function.
The goose neck lamps with new design will be used in the pop-up roof. The LED reading lamps can be switched on/off and dimmed separately using an integrated switch.
Code LC7 (Lighting for front footwell) and two LED lamps on the B-pillar for the rear provide a homely ambiance. Additionally, the front base area of the kitchen module can be optionally upgraded with indirect ambient lighting, code LC0 (Marco Polo cabinet module ambient lighting). The amber ambient lighting can be switched on/off by means of a switch on the function column.

Map data update (COMAND)
The XENTRY Kit diagnosis system's portable Blu-ray player is used as standard. It is directly connected to the COMAND system via USB and now allows for update periods of 30 to 45 min. If no Blu-ray player is available, a USB storage device can also be used. Before updating a vehicle-specific PIN has to be generated through VeDoc. Special authorization is required to do this.
FG 83 Climate control
FUG 00 - General
Marco Polo climate control
Due to the pop-up roof, climate control in the rear is operated exclusively using the central operating unit (COU) control unit (A40) or the FRONT heating/air conditioning operating switch (S98/1).
FUG 70 Stationary heater, auxiliary heater, heater booster
Code HZ1 (Hot-air auxiliary heater with timer and temperature control) of Marco Polo
The Marco Polo is equipped with a hot-air auxiliary heater. This fuel-powered auxiliary heating is independent from the engine and equipped with temperature control and an output of 3 kW. The air is drawn in on the inside of the driver seat frame and fed into the vehicle interior via an outlet on the rear of the seat base.
It is operated via the Marco Polo central electronics display unit (N10/17) and enables auxiliary heating programming. The operating unit is used to switch the auxiliary heater on/off and to preselect the ON time as well as the operating time/mode of the auxiliary heater. The maximum runtime of the auxiliary heating is 65 min in automatic mode; the switch clock automatically calculates when the heating was switched on depending on the interior temperature taken and the selected heating level. A guide rail for a folding table is installed underneath the trim piece. To save space, the table is positioned between the couch and kitchen area. To use, the table is slid forward along the kitchenette on a rail and can be used in the vehicle with the aid of an integrated table leg.
Below the refrigerator box are the fuses for the functional units and consumers of the kitchenette as well as the connection for the electric comfort couch. The fresh water and wastewater containers are also installed there. The fresh water tank has a volume of 38 l and the waste water container has a volume of 40 l. Fresh water can be drawn from the water faucet in the sink and used for cleaning or cooking. Wastewater runs from the sink into the wastewater container. A stopcock is integrated in the kitchenette to allow the wastewater to be drained.
The fill levels are shown in three stages in the display of the display unit central electronics (N10/17).
The drain valve for the wastewater container is next to the gas shutoff valve for the gas burners and can be accessed from the large storage compartment with sliding door in the front lower part of the kitchenette. The paneling in the front part of the kitchenette can be removed to allow easy cleaning of the wastewater container.
Emptying of the fresh water tank can be controlled via a valve that is in the kitchenette in the area of the liftgate.
Access for cleaning the fresh water tank is via a cover in the two-section wardrobe.
The functional column, which provides space for the 230 V sockets, is located in the front area of the kitchenette. When using the external connections, the 230 V sockets can be used to operate commercially available electronic devices. The USB interfaces allow convenient charging of mobile devices. The switch for the optional ambient lighting and the ground fault circuit breaker for the power outlets are also in the function column.
Additionally, the switch and connection for the outside shower, which is available as an optional extra, are located in the rear area of the kitchenette.
The upper part of the rear wardrobe module has a two-section wardrobe with practical sliding doors.
