Document contents updated.

To improve customer satisfaction in combination with the map data and software update for the Garmin® MAP PILOT, we would like to notify you of the following:

System components

The system is based on the Audio 20 CD radio (code 522) and an SD card slot.

The map data required for the navigation system and the navigation software are located on the SD card. For navigation the SD card has to be inserted, because the data cannot be transferred to the radio.

When ordering the Garmin® MAP PILOT, code 357 (Map navigation) ex factory, the SD card is included with the vehicle. By opening the SD card packaging the customer accepts the licensing terms & conditions (see SD card packaging). When ordering the Garmin® MAP PILOT preinstallation ex factory, this SD card can be procured from the parts department. Additional information is available in the ODUS system of MercedesBenz Accessories GmbH.

When retrofitting the SD card care must be taken to ensure that an initial SD card is ordered and not an update SD card. For this retrofit, code 357 (Card navigation) must be added to the vehicle data card in VeDoc.

An initial SD card must always be used in case of initial startup or head unit replacement. In all other cases, an update SD card can be used.

Initial startup and copy protection

Upon confirmation, initial startup is performed by inserting the SD card into the SD card slot and selecting navigation mode in the radio. Following initial startup, the SD card is authorized for the respective radio and can then only be used for this radio. If an authorized SD card is used in another radio, a fault message is shown.

It is absolutely essential to note that only a genuine SD card, which has been procured through original Mercedes-Benz sales systems and which has not been used in any other vehicle before, is used.

If the radio has to be replaced, then a new initial SD card must be ordered as a remanufactured part and authorized for the new radio (see EPC footnote 048: For vehicles with code 522 in combination with code 357 please also order memory card for SD navigation system). The previous SD card has to be returned with the old radio as it will undergo reconditioning as a remanufactured part.

Operating instructions

The SD card contains the operating manual as a pdf file. This can be called up using a suitable PC. A hard copy version of a Quick Start Manual is also included in the packaging.

Reading out map data and navigation software

Read out the current map data through the menu: Settings  Available maps.

Update of map data and navigation software (worldwide) by procuring an update SD card

In all markets in which the Garmin® MAP PILOT is available, a navigation update SD card can be procured through the parts department. Further information is available in the ODUS system at MercedesBenz Accessories GmbH.

Please note that a navigation update SD card cannot be used to perform an initial startup of the navigation system. Initial startup must be performed using an initial SD card (ex factory) or an initial SD card for a retrofit (from the ODUS system). Only then can a navigation system update SD card be used.

Update of map data and navigation software (worldwide) via MercedesBenz Download Manager

The update of the map data and the navigation software (worldwide) can be performed using the free of charge MercedesBenz Download Manager by the customer himself or by the dealer providing support. For an update we recommend that the latest version of the Download Manager always be used.

For customers: The data on the SD card can be updated by the customer online using the MercedesBenz Download Manager on the PC through the MercedesBenz Shop.

https://shop.mercedes-benz.com/dcp/static/garmin

Please observe the instructions for the Download Manager.

For dealers: Dealers have the option of updating the data on the SD card using the Mercedes-Benz Download Manager for dealers. This Download Manager can be downloaded through the ODUS system from MercedesBenz Accessories GmbH in the Services & Downloads area  Further information  Accessories  Telematics  Download Manager.

The Download Manager can be used without any need for installation/ administrator rights. It is advisable to use the XENTRY Tab. Dealers require an ODUS login to use the Mercedes-Benz Download Manager.

Please observe the safety information and explanations in the operating instructions for the Download Manager.

Preconditions and time required

The SD card must have been authorized for the radio beforehand. Installation of Adobe Air on the PC is necessary for the customer to be able to use the MercedesBenz Download Manager. When the MercedesBenz Download Manager is started for the first time, a check is carried out to determine whether Adobe Air is installed on the Windows PC (only for customer version of Download Manager). Where applicable, the download of Adobe Air is automatically offered. The time required for an update of the navigation software using the MercedesBenz Download Manager may be several hours. This is dependent on the required content and the bandwidth of the Internet connection.

Update of navigation software

Update of navigation software can be carried out via the Download Manager at any time. Precondition for this is the availability of new software.

Update of map data (Freshmap)

Please note that an update of map data in the Download Manager is only possible during the Freshmap time period.

Once the SD card is authorized in the vehicle a map update can be performed if more up-to-date map data are available in the Download Manager. This map update can be performed up to 60 days after the first 200 total kilometers have been driven by the vehicle.

The map update in the Freshmap time period can be carried out via the Download Manager. After the Freshmap time period has elapsed, a map update via the Download Manager is currently not possible.

When handing over a new vehicle, the customer should be notified of this 60day deadline in combination with any exceeding of the 200-km (124.2 miles). An extension of this deadline is not possible. The map data can be updated during this period by the dealer on the customer's behalf if he so requests, this cannot however be settled through warranty and goodwill.

Please note that upon purchasing a SD card navigations update, the customer is authorized to perform a map update in the Download Manager 60 days after initial startup in the vehicle.
The Live Traffic period is also renewed when the vehicle with code B54 (Live Traffic Information) or code 367 (Live Traffic Information) has been shipped with a navigation update SD card for 3 years as from the initial startup.

Additional functions of the Download Manager

Backup copy

Under Settings Backup and restore Backup, a local backup copy of the SD card can be generated on the computer and can be restored if necessary.

Please note that sufficient storage space must be available on the local storage medium.

Recovery

Under Settings Backup and restore Check, a previous state of the SD card can be restored. Precondition for this is the availability of the "GarminDevice.xml" file in the "Garmin" folder on the SD card or the first-time use of the functional SD card with the Download Manager. This ensures the a state of the SD card is documented by the system.

Please note that restoring the SD card can take several hours.
In the Download Manager, a file is stored under the menu item Help, which explains the above-mentioned functions, processes, procedures and prerequisites in detail.

System check

To check the SD card slot, the line connection and the navigation mode, the test card 000 589 01 22 00 is available for model 205 or 000 589 03 22 00 for model 205, 213, 253 or 000 589 04 22 00 for model 117, 156, 166, 172, 176, 207, 212, 218, 246 and 292. The test card only contains the navigation software and no map data. For testing the components, the test card must be inserted in the SD card slot. The navigation menu system can be tried here. An active route calculation is not possible.
