Due to a very high number of follow-up repairs for seats, this Service Information should contribute to effective problem solving and an increase in customer satisfaction.
Measures to reduce noise are described. In order to successfully avoid follow-up repairs in the long-term, we would like to assist you with the following items:
Package of measures to be implemented as a precaution on first visit from customer
Notes on seat noises
Package of measures to be implemented as a precaution on first visit from customer
New and individual measures which are already familiar to some extent have been combined into packages of measures which are to be implemented in full on the first visit to the workshop in order to avoid possible follow-up repairs. This may also mean that measures, which are not connected with the original complaint, are implemented on the seats.
It is absolutely essential that only packages of measures we publish are implemented completely on the first visit to the workshop. You can obtain the defined packages of measures from the documents published in Group 91.10.
Notes on seat noises
Seat noises depend on:
Customer's individual seat position (backrest and cushion)
Customer's individual manner of getting into and sitting in vehicle
Seat position
Maintain the customer's original seat position (cushion angle and seat backrest adjustment) during the analysis. This is the only way the noise complained of can be identified.
If possible store the seat adjustments by means of memory.
Noise analysis
Carry out the noise analysis together with the customer. The customer may perceive a different noise to the fitter in question.
1. Noises from seat substructure
Noises often arise from basic distortions. For all operations before you work on parts (seat cushion, seat adjuster), first release the seat connections and before screwing them back on move them once over the entire adjustment range. The largest number of complaints can be eliminated by loosening and fastening again.
Remedial action
If noises are still present after eliminating the basic distortions, see the published documents in Group 91.10.
Use the felts and lubricants cited in the documents only. We approve these and they offer a long-term solution. If you do not use the quoted part numbers, the use of a different felt for example can lead to additional noise or the former wears out with mileage and causes noise later on. If part numbers are not specified, the resources in the "Noise case" (part number A 000 580 03 50) may be used.
If you cannot find a remedy for the noise you have detected, pass on the query by means of a Tips case to the MPC responsible.
Once the component affected is removed, carry out all known measures to deal with noise and solve the problem simply (stick on felt, grease, etc.) in order to avoid follow-up repairs and to increase customer satisfaction.
