Perform software update for COMAND (with XENTRY/DAS connected)

We hereby notify you that the aforementioned vehicles with software 11/07.01 in the COMAND Online control unit can only be updated via a special process. This special process is automatically recognized by the diagnostic system (XENTRY DAS) and menu-assistance guidance is provided.

The necessary "Telematics Special NTG4.5" CD is automatically made available with XENTRY version 05/2012.

To update the "COMAND Online" control unit (with software release 11/07.01), perform the following steps:

1 Connect charging equipment.

2 Connect diagnostic system (XENTRY DAS).

3 Entry to control unit programming for COMAND control unit, to do so select "Control units view - COMAND APS (A40/3) - Adaptations - Control unit programming" menu item.

4 Follow Xentry DAS instructions. When requested, insert CD labeled "Telematics Special NTG4.5" into drive of "COMAND Online" control unit.

Make sure that the navigation map version of the "Telematics Special NTG4.5" CD (see CD label) matches a navigation map version already installed in the COMAND Online. The previously installed versions can be determined in VeDoc at the "Navigation" tab in the section "Existing map versions" in the expanded view. This document contains a table which indicates which "Telematics Special-NTG4.5" CD is to be used to match the specific navigation map version.
After inserting the CD confirm the update procedure with "Yes".
After approx. 5 s press "OK" to confirm that the map update was successful (the actual map data on the hard disk of the COMAND Online control unit are not changed and remain in the original state).

5 Remove "Telematics Special NTG4.5" CD from drive of COMAND Online system.

6 Plug any empty USB stick into the standard USB interface in the center armrest (do not connect it to the Media Interface). The USB stick triggers an automatic reboot of the COMAND Online control unit.

Wait until the "COMAND Online" control unit has completely restarted (approx. 1 min.). The display remains dark throughout this restart.

7 Remove USB stick.

Up to and including Xentry version 01/2013:

8 Insert "Telematics-Special-NTG4.5" CD into diagnostic equipment drive.

9 Finally, program the control unit using the "Adaptations" tab in the "Control unit programming" menu item.

During the programming process the prompt: "Should control unit programming be conducted from the hard disk, the DVD or from the removable storage device?“ should be answered with "CD/DVD drive“.

When the new control unit software is identified, remove CD labeled "Telematics Special NTG4.5" from diagnostic equipment.

10 The CD/DVD required for control unit programming labeled "Telematics" is shown by the diagnostic system. Insert this CD/DVD into the CD/DVD drive of the "COMAND Online" control unit. Finally, start the control unit programming process.

As of Xentry version 03/2013:

8 Program control unit using the "Adaptations" tab in the "Control unit programming" tab.
