Service Information: Introduction of Mercedes me Adapter

General

 The Mercedes me Adapter is an OBD2 connector, which can be used in combination with the relevant smartphone App "Mercedes me Adapter" as a telematics retrofit solution. The adapter can be retrofitted to all above-mentioned models that are not equipped with the corresponding Mercedes me connect preinstallation at the factory. The current model series list is available at https://www.mercedes.me/adapter.

Supported smartphones

The Mercedes me Adapter App operates with Bluetooth®, can be used with conventional smartphones and it is available in the respective App Stores:

Apple iPhone: Operating system as from version IOS 8.4

 4S, 5, 5C, 5S, 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, SE

Android: Operating system as from version 4.4.2

Activation

 The Mercedes me Adapter must be activated by a link in MmcR (Mercedes me connect Retail, Tool for linking vehicle and customer data) by the Mercedes­Benz service partner. Otherwise, it cannot be used!

Availability

Passenger cars:

The Mercedes me Adapter is already available in the following countries:

 A, B, D, E, HU, L, NL, SK

and it will be successively launched in the following European markets in 2016:

 CH, CZ, DK, F, GB, I, IRL, N, P, PL, S

in which Mercedes me connect is offered. In Finland (FIN) the adapter will be available in 2017.

Vans:

The Mercedes me Adapter will be launched for the van model series as from 01.09.2016.

Replacement part process

The adapter A 213 820 32 02 (Cars and Vans) will be marketed through the standard replacement part process in the GLC.

When damaged

In a damage case, or if the customer complains of problems with the Mercedes me Adapter, a brief function test must be conducted. The following document is available in the WIS for this:

Special features in model 906

On model 906, the diagnostic connector is located in the left footwell below the covering for the A-pillars, irrespective of whether the vehicle is a LHD or a RHD. The overall height of the Mercedes me Adapter is approx. 3 mm too high, this means that the covering for the A-pillars can no longer be closed as intended. The diagnostic connector itself is protected by a black protective flap. This must be removed when using the Mercedes me Adapter in model 906 and stored in the vehicle. To enable the cover to be closed when using the Mercedes me Adapter, the original rotary catch in the cover for the A-pillars must be removed and replaced by a longer rotary catch with part number A 000 998 35 00.
