Integrated module with internal gearshift system
External shift
The integral module with internal shift mechanism consists of the following components:
Reverse gear shift fork
1st/2nd gear shift fork
3rd/4th gear gearshift arm or 3rd/4th gear shift fork
5th/6th gear gearshift arm or 5th/6th gear shift fork
Main shifter shaft or transverse shift rod, precentered
The external shift consists of the following components:
Relay levers
Bracket
Selector rod or selector lever
Gearshift lever
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The transmission neutral position switch (S164) is located on top of the rear housing part of the transmission.
The shift lever knob is located on the switching unit underneath the upper control panel control unit (N72/1) at the center of the dashboard. The shift lever knob is used to initiate the selection movements for the gates and the shift movements for engaging the gears in the switching unit, to split them and to transmit them via one shift cable and one selector cable to the external shift mechanism on the transmission. The external shift mechanism on the transmission converts the longitudinal movements of the gearshift lever into a rotational movement for the integral module with internal shift mechanism and in addition transmits the incoming shift and selection movements in order to reduce the noticeable manual shift forces.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The transmission neutral position switch detects the neutral position of the transmission. It detects whether or not a gear is engaged.
In vehicles with code (MJ6) Engine start/stop system (model 906) or with code (MJ7) ECO start/stop function (model 639), the transmission neutral position switch is read in via a discrete line by CDI control unit (N3/20), with OM 642, or by CDI control unit (N3/26), with OM 646.980/981, or by CDI control unit (N3/9), with OM 646.982/983, or by CDI control unit (N3/28), with OM651 and placed as a message on the engine compartment CAN (CAN C).
In vehicles except those with code (MJ6) Engine start/stop system (model 906) or except code (MJ7) ECO start/stop function (model 639), the transmission neutral position switch is read in via a discrete line by the ESP control unit (N30/4) and placed as a message on the engine compartment CAN.
Inadvertent engagement of reverse gear is prevented by an active reverse gear lockout. In order to reach the reverse gear gate, the pull ring below the shift lever knob must be pulled up. The backup lamp switch (S16/2) is actuated as soon as the driver moves the gearshift lever into the reverse gear gate. The signal is read in by the SAM control unit (N10) and placed on the interior CAN (CAN B).
At the same time, the left backup lamp (E3e3) and right backup lamp (E4e3) are actuated. On vehicles with code (JW0) Backup warning system (model 906), the backup warning system horn (H3/4) is also activated.
