The ventilation system ensures aeration of the vehicle interior (air circulation) and also ensures the following:
the windshield and windows are kept defogged
there is a good oxygen supply to occupants
constant and pleasant temperatures are quickly achieved in the vehicle interior
Aeration can occur using one of the following two modes:
Fresh air mode
Recirculated air mode
The selection is made via the air recirculation button. The rate of circulation and the distribution of fresh or recirculated air are controlled with the air flow selector wheel and the air distributor selector wheel, which are integrated into the climate control control and operating unit (N20). The output of the blower motor (M2) is regulated via the air flow selector wheel to control the rate of circulation.
The output of the blower motor (M2) can be adjusted in the following 5 stages with the air flow selector wheel via the fan motor series resistor (R14) to control the rate of circulation:
Stage 0
Stage 1
Stage 2
Stage 3
STAGE 4
The distribution of suctioned fresh or recirculated air can be controlled by means of the air distribution flap via the air distributor selector wheel. The distribution of the suctioned fresh or recirculated air is possible in the following positions:
Defroster vents (3 o'clock position)
Defroster vents and footwell vents (2 o'clock position)
Footwell vents (12 noon position)
Dash support vents and footwell vents (10 o'clock position)
Dash support vents (9 o'clock position)
Intermediate positions, except the positions listed, are also possible, e.g. if the air distribution switch is between the defroster vents position (3 o'clock position) and the defroster vents and footwell vents position (2 o'clock position).
The distribution of suctioned fresh or recirculated air into the vehicle interior then takes place according to the position of the air distributor selector wheel, via the following air vents:
Defroster vent for left side window
Adjustable left side air vent
Adjustable left center nozzle
Air vents for left head area and rear compartment
Air vents for right head area and rear compartment
Adjustable right center nozzle
Adjustable right side air vent
Defroster vent for right side window
Right and left footwell air vents
The emission of fresh or recirculated air is also dependent on the position of the following selector wheels:
Defroster vents (3 o'clock position)
Defroster vents and footwell vents (2 o'clock position)
Footwell vents (12 noon position)
Dash support vents and footwell vents (10 o'clock position)
Dash support vents (9 o'clock position)
Fresh air mode
During fresh air mode, the fresh air/recirculated air flap actuator motor (M2/5) keeps the two fresh air and air recirculation flaps open in the fresh air position. In this position, the blower motor (M2) is used to draw in ambient air through the air inlet above the engine hood, the particulate filter (pollen filter) and through the two fresh air and air recirculation flaps into the heater housing.
Recirculated air mode
During air recirculation mode, the fresh air/recirculated air flap actuator motor (M2/5) keeps the two fresh air and air recirculation flaps closed in the recirculated air position. In this position, the blower motor (M2) is used to suck the recirculated air out of the vehicle interior into the heater housing. Depending on the position of the air flow selector wheel, the temperature selection selector wheel and the air distribution selector wheel, the recirculated air works its way through the air ducts and the air vents into the vehicle interior.
