Circuit 15C OFF
Activate antitheft alarm system (ATA [EDW]), general
The ATA is automatically activated with the central locking (CL) when the vehicle is locked. Then the individual alarm inputs are monitored. The activated ATA is shown via the permanent flashing of the ATA function indicator in the center instrument panel display section (A40/19) (as of 01.06.2017 (model 222) and/or 01.12.2017 (model 217)) and/or the ATA function indicator (S6/2e1) in the center instrument panel button group (S6/2) (up to 31.05.2017 (model 222) and/or 30.11.2017 (model 217)). The front SAM control unit (N10/6) actuates the ATA function indicator via the instrument panel LIN (LIN 1).
In vehicles for Belgium, the ATA arms automatically without locking the vehicle with the CL.

The image data is transmitted via the HSVL line to the Audio/COMAND display.
Function sequence for activating ATA [EDW]
The ATA is activated when the CL is locked. The electronic ignition lock control unit transmits the CL status via the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit and to the overhead control panel control unit (as of 01.06.2017 (model 222) and/or 01.12.2017 (model 217)) and/or to the ATA/tow-away protection/interior protection control unit (model 222 up to 31.05.2017 and/or model 217.3 up to 30.11.2017 with code 882 (Interior monitoring)) or to the ATA/tow-away protection/interior protection control unit (N26/3) (model 217.4 up to 30.11.2017 with code 882 (Interior monitoring)). Then the ATA is activated.
Special case driver door: If the driver door is still open when the CL is locked, it is not locked. After closing the driver door, the left front door control unit (N69/1) sends the status of the driver door via interior CAN to the front SAM control unit. The alarm input is included in the polling cycle. This leads to actuation of an alarm when opening the driver door without previous deactivation of the ATA [EDW].
Self-activation (only in vehicles for Belgium): If the driver door or the trunk lid is opened and closed again after the transmitter key is removed from the electronic ignition lock control unit, the ATA is activated automatically t = 100 s after the last door or the trunk lid is closed, regardless of the status of the vehicle locking.
Additional function requirements for activating alarm inputs
ATA [EDW] activated
Function sequence for activating alarm inputs
Activating alarm input function comprises the following subfunctions:
Function sequence for doors and flaps
Function sequence for activating tow-away protection and parking damage detection (with code 852 (sensor system for anti-theft alarm system (ATA)) or with code 882 (interior protection))
Function sequence for activating interior protection (with code 852 (sensor system for anti-theft alarm system (ATA)) or with code 882 (interior protection))
Activating function sequence for alarm siren (H3/1) (with code 882 (Interior monitoring))
Function sequence for doors and flaps
The status (open or closed) of the following switches is checked cyclically every t = 200 ms:
Left front door main catch microswitch (A85s2) in left front door lock (A85)
Right front door main catch microswitch (A85/1s2) in right front door lock (A85/1)
Model 222: Left rear door main catch microswitch (A85/3s2) in left rear door lock (A85/3)
Model 222: Right rear door main catch microswitch (A85/4s2) in right rear door lock (A85/4)
Trunk lid lock main catch switch (A85/5s1) in trunk lid lock (A85/5)
Model 217.4: Glove compartment anti-theft alarm system switch (S62/7)
Left engine hood contact switch (S62/43)
The left front door control unit reads in the status of the left front door main catch microswitch directly and sends it via interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.
The right front door control unit (N69/2) reads in the status of the right front door main catch microswitch directly and sends it to the SAM control unit via interior CAN.
The rear SAM control unit (N10/8) reads in the status of the trunk lid lock main catch switch directly and sends this via interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.
The front SAM control unit directly reads in the status of the left engine hood contact switch.
Model 222:
The left rear door control unit (N69/3) directly reads in the status of the left rear door main catch microswitch and sends it via interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.
The right rear door control unit (N69/4) directly reads in the status of the right rear door main catch microswitch and sends it via interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.
Model 217.4:
The front SAM control unit directly reads in the status of the glove compartment anti-theft alarm system switch.
The front SAM control unit evaluates the status of all alarm inputs. Alarm inputs set later to the non-actuated state (if e.g. the trunk lid is closed only after the vehicle has been locked), are ready for alarm for t = 10 s after closing.
Function sequence for activating tow-away protection and parking damage detection (with code 852 (sensor system for anti-theft alarm system (ATA)) or with code 882 (interior protection))
Tow-away protection and parking damage detection are activated (with code 852 (sensor system for anti-theft alarm system (ATA)) or as of 01.06.2017 (model 222) and/or as of 01.12.2017 (model 217, except model 217.4) with code 882 (interior protection)) (if not previously deselected for the next locking) t = 60 s after locking the CL and closing the last door and trunk lid.
For tow-away protection, the inclination sensor in the overhead control panel control unit (as of 01.06.2017 (model 222) and/or 01.12.2017 (model 217)) and/or in the ATA / tow-away protection / interior protection control unit (up to 31.05.2017 (model 222) and/or 30.11.2017 (model 217)) determines a reference position with which the relative inclination can be compared during the active time. Determination of the reference position takes approx. t = 10 to 15 s. Therefore an alarm can only be triggered approx. t = 60 s after the ATA is activated, at the earliest.
When the maximum vehicle inclination is exceeded with regard to the reference position, an alarm is triggered. If the vehicle inclination changes very slowly (e.g. leaky tire), the reference position adapts to the current vehicle position to prevent inadvertent activation of the inclination sensor.
For parking damage detection, the vehicle movement is evaluated via the inclination sensor. If a physical shock that may have caused parking damage is detected, a corresponding message is sent.
In the case of a faulty inclination sensor, all other components of the ATA remain operational and the relevant fault codes are entered in the fault memory of the overhead control panel control unit (as of 01.06.2017 (model 222) and/or 01.12.2017 (model 217)) and/or the ATA/tow-away protection/interior protection control unit (up to 31.05.2017 (model 222) and/or 30.11.2017 (model 217)).
Function sequence for activating interior protection (with code 852 (sensor system for anti-theft alarm system (ATA)) or with code 882 (interior protection))
The interior protection is activated (if not previously deselected for the next locking) only t = 10 s after locking the CL and closing the last door and trunk lid. The interior protection is (if not already deselected for the next locking) ready for an alarm only after another t = 10 s because it is first necessary to calibrate the ATA / tow-away protection / interior protection control unit to match the vehicle interior. If a defect is detected, the remaining ATA functions are still ensured regardless of this error. The relevant fault codes are entered in the fault memory of the overhead control panel control unit (as of 01.06.2017 (model 222) and/or 01.12.2017 (model 217)) and/or the ATA/tow-away protection/interior protection control unit (up to 31.05.2017 (model 222) and/or 30.11.2017 (model 217)).
Function sequence for activating alarm siren (with code 882 (Interior monitoring))
The alarm siren is armed together with the ATA and addressed cyclically approx. every t = 600 ms by the overhead control panel control unit (as of 01.06.2017 (model 222) and/or 01.12.2017 (model 217)) and/or by the ATA/tow-away protection/interior protection control unit (up to 31.05.2017 (model 222) and/or 30.11.2017 (model 217)) via the alarm system LIN (LIN B14).
Deactivate ATA: A complete deactivation of the ATA occurs by opening the CL with the transmitter key wirelessly or by inserting the transmitter key in the electronic ignition lock control unit or by pressing the KEYLESS-GO start/stop button (S2/3). The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the corresponding signal via interior CAN to the front SAM control unit, which then deactivates the ATA [ATA].
