Warning | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
Warning | Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Topical note | Notes on coolant
| Check | ||
1 | Open hood (1). | ||
| |||
2 | Unscrew cap (3) from coolant expansion reservoir (4). | Check coolant level only at a coolant temperature under 50 °C.
3 | Check anticorrosion and antifreeze protection. | If the anti-corrosion and antifreeze protection is insufficient
| |||
Calculate top-up quantity of anticorrosion and antifreeze protection. Remove front trim (2), drain coolant according to top-up quantity of the anti-corrosion and antifreeze protection at drain fitting (5) and reinstall front trim (2). Then perform operation steps 7 to 18.
After obtaining special order.

4 | Check coolant level on coolant expansion reservoir (4). | If there were no problems during the anti-corrosion and anti-freeze check.
The coolant expansion reservoir (4) must be filled to the "MAX" marking (A).
If the coolant level is under the "MAX" marking (A).
| |||
Fill coolant with the corresponding mixing ratio up to "MAX" marking (A).

5 | Screw cap (3) onto coolant expansion reservoir (4). | If there were no problems during the anti-corrosion and anti-freeze check.
6 | Close hood (1). | If there were no problems during the anti-corrosion and anti-freeze check.
| |||
Fill top-up quantity of anticorrosion and antifreeze protection
7 | Switch on ignition. | ||
8 | Set heater control to warm and switch on blower. | See owner's manual.
9 | Switch on hot-water auxiliary heater. | Only for vehicles with code D6N (Hot-water auxiliary heater, cab and engine)
See owner's manual. | |||
10 | Fill anticorrosion and antifreeze protection up to "MAX" marking (A).
11 | Screw cap (3) onto coolant expansion reservoir (4).
12 | Start engine and allow it to warm up until the coolant thermostat opens. | Bring coolant temperature to approx. 85 °C.
Only for vehicles with code D6N (Hot-water auxiliary heater, cab and engine)
13 | Switch off engine. | ||
14 | Switch off hot-water auxiliary heater. | Only for vehicles with code D6N (Hot-water auxiliary heater, cab and engine)
15 | Switch off heater control and blower. | See owner's manual.
16 | Let engine cool down to less than 50 °C.
17 | Check/correct coolant level again. | The coolant expansion reservoir (4) must be filled to the "MAX" marking (A).
18 | Close hood (1). | ||
