| Remove/install | ||
Danger! | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between columns of lifting platform and position four support plates at lifting platform support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.
Danger! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by handling hot or glowing objects. | Wear safety gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary.
1 | Remove bottom engine compartment paneling | Installation: Install bottom engine compartment paneling only after engine test run.
Remove O2 sensor downstream of TWC
2 | Unclip O2 sensor downstream of TWC (G3/1x1) at bracket and disconnect. | Unclip electrical feed line from the brackets (1).
3 | Remove O2 sensor downstream of TWC (G3/1) from firewall catalytic converter (157) | Installation: Coat thread with heat-resistant lubricant.

Paste | |||
Remove O2 sensor upstream of TWC
4 | Unclip O2 sensor upstream of TWC (G3/2x1) at bracket and disconnect. | Unclip electrical feed line from the brackets (2).
5 | Remove O2 sensor upstream of TWC (G3/2) from firewall catalytic converter (157) | The O2 sensor upstream of TWC (G3/2) is a wideband O2 sensor and therefore is extremely sensitive to the effect of applied forces. The following points should be observed otherwise the O2 sensor upstream of TWC (G3/2) will be damaged: Do not unscrew O2 sensor upstream of TWC (G3/2) with pliers but only fit a wrench on hexagon. When cleaning the thread, do not use any force (e. g. with pliers or vise) on the stem of the O2 sensor upstream of TWC (G3/2).
When replacing the O2 sensor upstream of TWC (G3/2), the balance resistor (3) of the new O2 sensor upstream of TWC (G3/2) is already put onto the new part. Do not mix up balance resistors (3), because their resistance can vary depending on the sensor .
Installation: Coat thread with heat-resistant lubricant.
| |||
Paste | |||
6 | Install in the reverse order
7 | Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS | When replacing the O2 sensor upstream of (G3/2)
| Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory | ||
STAR DIAGNOSIS diagnosis system
8 | Carry out initial initialization of the ME control unit | When replacing the O2 sensor upstream of TWC (G3/2)
After replacing the O2 sensor upstream of TWC (G3/2) the mixture adaptation in the ME control unit must be reset using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the running engine | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
9 | Conduct engine test run and check exhaust system for leaks |
