3

Front transverse control arm mounting

a

The adjustment at the front of the lower transverse control arm towards the vehicle center causes a positive camber change.

19b

Nut

The adjustment at the rear of the lower transverse control arm towards the vehicle center causes a reduction in caster.

19c

Old repair bolt

b

The adjustment at the front of the lower transverse control arm towards the outside of the vehicle causes a negative camber change. The adjustment at the rear of the lower transverse control arm towards outside of the vehicle causes an increase in caster.

Measure using pointer device

1

Measure vehicle level at the front and rear axle

Check vehicle level at front and rear axle with electronic inclinometer, adjust if necessary

AR40.20-P-0301RT

2

Carrying initial measurement of wheel alignment

Perform wheel alignment check

AR40.20-P-0200RT

Check

3

Read off specified values of wheel camber angle and caster angle by means of the specified value tables and compare with the result of wheel alignment

The caster angle at the front axle can only be changed by adjusting the wheel camber angle

The following causes may exist in the event of larger deviations in wheel camber or caster:
excessive difference in vehicle level between left and right side of vehicle,
deformation of steering parts or tie rods,
deformation of front axle carrier or of chassis parts, e.g. as a result of accident damage,
deformation of body, e.g. as a result of accident damage.

Adjust

5

Loosen bolted connections (1) on transverse control arm mountings (2, 3)

Only if it is necessary to correct the camber angle and/or caster angle.

6

Remove bolts of stabilizer bar bracket to axle/engine subframe and swivel the stabilizer bar downwards

Only if the wheel camber angle at the front transverse control arm mounting needs to be corrected.

Remove stabilizer bar carefully as it is pre-loaded

*BA32.35-P-1001-01C

7

Install repair bolt (19c, 19d) on front or rear transverse control arm mounting

Only if the wheel camber angle or caster cannot be adjusted.
Screw on nut (19b) until it abuts, but do not tighten yet, so that the rubber mount of the lower transverse control arm can twist when the vehicle is rocked to settle the suspension.

On front axle carriers with lock tabs on both sides of the front transverse control arm mounting, only the new repair bolt (19d) may be used.
The new repair bolt (19d) for the rear transverse control arm mounting can be inserted from above or from below.

The old repair bolt (19c) can be replaced with the new repair bolt (19d).
Only use the new repair bolt (19d) with washers (19e).

8

Tighten nut (19b)

The repair bolt (19c, 19d) must not turn after fixing. When tightening the nut (19b) counterhold the repair bolt (19c, 19d) otherwise the lock tabs in the front axle carrier may be damaged.

9

Tighten bolted connections (1) of transverse control arm mountings (2, 3)

Installation:
Final tightening with vehicle on measuring platform or in K0 position in order to avoid placing rubber mounts under stress.
The rubber mounts can otherwise be subjected to mechanical stress.

Only if wheel camber angle and/or caster angle have been corrected.
