Replacement key:

The replacement key replaces an existing key. The existing key can no longer be used on the vehicle once the new replacement key has been synchronized with the vehicle. A key can be replaced with a replacement key a maximum of two times.

A replacement key is recommended where a key has clearly been lost or damaged. In this case, the replacement key must be programmed immediately as per the policy for theft-relevant parts (TRP).

Additional key:

Extra key in addition to the existing keys. A maximum of 6 additional keys can be programmed in addition to the 2 keys originally supplied with the vehicle (i.e. a total of 8 keys). On vehicles with code E4E (Engine start/stop for ABH, automatic), key track 8 is reserved. This means that only 5 additional keys are available for these vehicles.

An additional key is advisable if you require an extra key along with the already-available keys.

Online programming:

As from drive authorization system stage 4 (DAS 4), it is possible to program an electronic key using XENTRY Diagnosis directly at the vehicle in an authorized Mercedes-Benz workshop to improve service quality and to ensure there are no gaps in the vehicle and parts documentation in the DAS central system. This online process has not yet been introduced to all countries. Please contact your local national representative to find out which particular process is approved in your market.

Fallback solution:

For markets that do not support the online process, or as a fallback solution where an online connection is not available, an electronic key can be programmed as for DAS 3 using a programming station in logistics (Wholesale or GLC). Please note the sections "Register vehicle as Present" and "Parts availability". No further rights are required for the fallback solution.

Disable key line:

Where a key is lost the corresponding key line must always be disabled straight away to ensure that the lost vehicle key is no longer functional. If a lost key is found again, the key line can be enabled again whereupon the key will be fully functional on the vehicle again. It is not necessary to disable the key track when a replacement key is immediately programmed and taught-in online in the authorized Mercedes-Benz workshop (as from DAS 4).

Enable key track:

The key track can be enabled online using XENTRY Diagnosis or as a fallback solution through the User Help Desk (UHD).

Extended rights are required for online enabling of a key line. Since diagnosis update 03/2016 for DAS 4 vehicles, no workshop key needs to be ordered for the fallback solution.
The procedure involving the UHD is shown in XENTRY Diagnosis.

Basic preconditions:

DRT Directives:

The following is absolutely necessary: Compliance with the theft-relevant parts (TRP) policy and a complete, signed and archived TRP form in combination with the repair order, where applicable. When ordering one or more replacement or additional keys, the DRT form must always be filled out in full, signed and archived. Please remember that any noticeable problems must be checked and, where applicable, measures introduced if the DRT Directives are not complied with.

XENTRY Flash basic rights

The XENTRY Flash basic rights are included in the XENTRY Flash rights.

With the activation of XENTRY Flash rights, the following activities can be performed for DAS 4 relevant component parts:

Vehicle registration for ordering a programmed key.

Personalization and commissioning of the automatic transmission control unit (TCM) & engine management control unit (MCM).

Personalization and commissioning of the control unit (electronic ignition lock (EIS)).

Locking the key track in the EIS control unit.

XENTRY Flash and extended DAS rights

With the activation of the extended DAS rights for DAS 4, the following commissioning activities can be performed on DAS-relevant component parts:

Enable locked key track.

Teach-in replacement key on vehicle.

Teach-in additional key on vehicle.

If extended DAS rights are required, they must be requested from the relevant XENTRY Flash national administrator with the relevant training course, the relevant forms and the supervisor's signature.

Code: T1938F).

Register vehicle as "Present":

For each process involving DAS 4, the vehicle must first be registered as "Present" in XENTRY Diagnosis. This functionality is automatically filed in the XENTRY Diagnosis online process. To ensure that the vehicle is also actually in the workshop, a functioning key must be kept near to the start/stop button. A programmed DAS 4 vehicle key can only be ordered once the vehicle has been registered in the DAS 4 central system. If the time period between the vehicle being registered as "Present" and ordering the new vehicle key is longer than 48 hours, the order is automatically canceled for safety reasons.

A fully-functional key must be available for a "Present" vehicle! (Online and fallback). If it is not possible to register the vehicle as "Present" (e.g. because key is missing), see special case "Not possible to register vehicle as Present".

Parts availability of unprogrammed key (Online, fallback and special case):

The parts availability of the unprogrammed DAS 4 key must be checked before initiating the workshop process of registering the vehicle as "Present" for the online or fallback process. If the unprogrammed DAS 4 key is not available, the vehicle's workshop visit must be rescheduled to a date when it is available. For safety reasons, the key programming process is only available for a limited period of time after vehicle registration. The order must be placed within 24 h in the logistics ordering system to ensure that the delivery or programming can be provided on time in the relevant logistics area. After this time has expired, the vehicle must be re-registered.

If you have not checked the availability of the part, the customer may suffer the disadvantage of having to visit the workshop at another date. To rule out this possibility, always note the parts availability. This enables you to provide the best-possible service to the customer.

Procedure description:

Generally, online programming involves replacement or additional keys. If extended rights are not available, programming can be undertaken as part of the fallback solution. In this instance, a programmed key is ordered from the logistics area responsible. This always requires the vehicle to be registered as "Present". A special case exists where this is not possible. When ordering a key you should always note the section on "Parts availability".

1. Online programming (general case):

Extended user rights are required (see basic requirements).

Connect the diagnostic equipment to the vehicle.

Start XENTRY Diagnosis.

Select brand and model.

Keep fully-functional electronic key and unprogrammed key close to hand, and follow the instructions in XENTRY Diagnosis.

Run function test and handover programmed key to customer.

Document handover in DRT form.

2. Fallback solution:

Extended rights are not required.

Connect the diagnostic equipment to the vehicle.

Start XENTRY Diagnosis.

Select brand and model.

Keep fully-functional electronic key close to hand and follow instructions in XENTRY Diagnosis.

Initiate ordering process.

Teach-in new key on vehicle (a diagnostic unit is not required).

Keep key near to start/stop button and switch on ignition.

In the case of a replacement key, the message "Key undergoing teach-in, please wait" may appear in the vehicle display. This message disappears after no more than 15 minutes; during this period, please keep the key near to the start/stop button.

Then check whether the vehicle can be started using the new key.

Run function test and handover new key at vehicle to customer.

Document handover in DRT form.

3. Special case: Vehicle cannot be registered as "Present"

Vehicle cannot be registered as "Present" as the owner no longer has a functioning key and no functioning electronic key can be placed in the vehicle interior during the "Present" message. In this instance, the procedure is conducted together with the Diagnosis UHD.

The completed application for registering the vehicle as "Present" must be submitted by the affected authorized MercedesBenz workshop directly to the Diagnosis UHD using the document

Perform OF80.57W300001A.

Diagnosis UHD can be contacted directly per ticket. To do so, the workshop requires an XSF enable. If an enable is not available send an inquiry email to [email protected].

XSF queries can be processed in the following languages:

English

English

French

Italian

Spanish

Japanese

Chinese

Dutch

An XSF Ticket can be created in XENTRY Diagnosis as follows:

Click the letter symbol at the top right  Select use case "Diagnosis"  Select operation step DAS  Select symptom

It is still possible to contact Diagnosis UHD per telephone or per email. To do so, the affected system number for the diagnostic unit, with which the key or keys was/were programmed, is required.

Important: The specifications from the DRT Directives and the DRT form must also be strictly adhered to in this special case.

Note: Since 01.01.2019, an unprogrammed key can also be programmed using XENTRY Diagnosis directly at the vehicle (extended rights provided) after successful vehicle registration via the diagnosis UHD. Ordering a pre-programmed replacement or additional key via Logistics is therefore no longer absolutely necessary.

Key ordering:

Following successful vehicle registration using the Diagnosis UHD, order without delay the preprogrammed replacement or additional key(s) through the order system for this vehicle. The replacement or additional key delivered via Logistics must be taught in on the vehicle (keep key near to start/stop button and switch on ignition). In the case of a replacement key, the message "Key undergoing teach-in, please wait" may appear in the vehicle display. This message disappears after no more than 15 min. During this period, please keep the key near to the start/stop button. Then check whether the vehicle can be started using the new key.

To ensure that the workshop is clearly filed in the system as discharged, it is absolutely necessary the vehicle is registered as "Present" after the new key has undergone teach-in using XENTRY Diagnosis.
