Remove

Secure vehicle against rolling

Release wheel nuts (2, 16)

With disk wheels

Release nuts (8) for fastening of Trilex rim on wheel rim

On wheels with Trilex rims (removal of Trilex rims with tires)

If the wheel rim is removed to enable additional work to be performed:



Release wheel nuts (9).

Raise vehicle at axle until wheels are clear of the ground and support vehicle on vehicle frame

4.1

Remove wheel nuts (2, 16)

With disk wheels

4.2

Unscrew nuts (8)

On wheels with Trilex rims (removal of Trilex rims with tires)

Remove multifunction valve (10) with attached hose (12) from single or outer wheel

Only for tire pressure control system.

Remove single wheel

For single tires

Remove outer wheel

With twin tires.

Remove spacer ring before removal of inner wheel

Only for twin tires with wheels with Trilex rims.

Remove support and lower vehicle

Only with twin tires with connecting flange (15).

Release wheel nuts (14) for fastening inner wheel

Only with twin tires with connecting flange (15).

Raise vehicle at axle until wheels are clear of the ground and support vehicle on vehicle frame

Only with twin tires with connecting flange (15).

Remove wheel nuts (14) and remove connecting flange (15)

Only with twin tires with connecting flange (15).

Remove multifunction valve (10) with attached hose (12) from inner wheel

Only for twin tires and tire pressure control system.

Remove inner wheel

Remove wheel nuts (9) and remove wheel rim

Only for wheels with Trilex rims and if the wheel rim is to be removed.

Check

Check removed wheels for condition and damage

 Worn or damaged tires and damaged rims must be replaced.

Check removed wheel nuts (2, 9, 14, 16) or nuts (8) and wheel studs (5) for damage

 Damaged wheel nuts (2, 9, 14, 16) or nuts (8) must be replaced.

If a wheel stud (5) is damaged:



Replace wheel stud (5).

Check contact surfaces (arrow) on wheels and bell hubs (1) or wheel hubs for soiling and corrosion

 If necessary, the contact surfaces (arrow) must then be cleaned.



Install

Install wheel rim, screw in wheel nuts (9) and fasten tighten uniformly in crosswise pattern

Only for wheels with Trilex rims and if the wheel rim was removed.


For vehicles with brake drums (4), the parking brake must be disengaged.
Otherwise, there is a risk that when the brake drum (4) is fastened in place and the wheel nuts (9) are then tightened, it may not make contact with the wheel hub or bell hub (1).

19.1

Install inner wheel

With twin tires.

 For spherical-ring centered twin tires, make sure that the spherical rings (6) are fitted onto the wheel studs (5).

Install single wheel

For single tires

Mount multifunction valve (10) with attached hose (12) to inner or single wheel

Only for tire pressure control system.

Install connecting flange (15), screw in wheel nuts (14) and fasten uniformly in crosswise pattern

Only with twin tires with connecting flange (15).


For vehicles with brake drums (4), the parking brake must be disengaged.
Otherwise, there is a risk that when the brake drum (4) is fastened in place and the wheel nuts (14) are then tightened, it may not make contact with the wheel hub or bell hub (1).

Remove support and lower vehicle

Only with twin tires with connecting flange (15).

Tighten wheel nuts (14) uniformly in a crosswise pattern

Only with twin tires with connecting flange (15).

When handing over the vehicle to the customer or the driver, point out to them that the wheel nuts (2, 9, 14, 16) or nuts (8) have to be retightened to the specified tightening torque.

 All wheels, for twin tires without connecting flange (15):
Retighten wheel nuts (2, 9) after 50 to 100 km to specified tightening torque.
All wheels, for twin tires with connecting flange (15):
After 50 to 100 km remove outer wheel and retighten the wheel nuts (14) for the inner wheel to the specified tightening torque.
After a further 50 to 100 km retighten the wheel nuts (16) for the outer wheel to the specified tightening torque.
Wheels with Trilex rims (removal/installation of Trilex rims with tires):
Retighten nuts (8) after 10 km and then again after a further 100 km to the specified tightening torque.
