Check preconditions for alternator test and ensure they are met.

Attach the multimeter (003) to the on-board electrical system battery (G1) according to the connection scheme.

Start engine.

Check the charge indicator while at an idle and with increasing engine speed (up to 3,000 rpm).

In case of correct charging voltage, no fault message is shown in the display on the instrument cluster.

If there is a fault message:

Check charging voltage or remedy fault.

Check charging voltage.

 Load on-board electrical system battery (G1) only using a permanent consumer (e.g. lighting), remove transitional resistance to electrical connections for charging system.

If the charging voltage is < 13.0 V:

Check alternator diodes (G2).

If the charging voltage is > 14.5 V:

Replace alternator regulator of alternator (G2).

Switch off engine.

Remove the multimeter (003).
