Service Information: Handling the TELE AID emergency call system

4.8.10

MODEL 211, 215, 220 with CODE (383) Tele-Aid fixed installation telephone

MODEL 240
up to model year 2008 (code 808)

Due to the fact that we have received several queries on handling the

"TELE AID systems", we would like to inform you

about the SA code 383.

The SA code 383 for "TELE AID services" no longer exists!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The "TELE AID services" had the following function:

- Emergency call (support through Tegaron Hotline)

- Telediagnosis (Customer Assistance Center (CAC)

24-hour Service)

- MB-Info (Customer Assistance Center (CAC)
Customer Service)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deactivation of the services as of 01.09.2004 in the following countries:

- Belgium

- France

- Italy

- Luxembourg

- Netherlands

- Switzerland

- Spain

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deactivation of the services as of 01.09.2005 in the following countries too:

- Germany

- Austria

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current situation:

In this emergency call system a special traffic telematics (VT) SIM card is installed into the front communications platform control unit (N112) and permanently assigned to them ex-factory or for a parts order.

The traffic telematics (VT) SIM card is not exchangeable and must remain installed in each control unit.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Even when the "TELE AID services" have been deactivated the "emergency call system 112" is still active. If manually actuated using the SOS button or if automatically actuated after an accident of a defined severity the emergency number "112" is selected. Insofar as a network is available a connection is then setup to the responsible rescue coordination center.

The "emergency call 112" function remains active until the GSM network is switched off. This is why it is necessary to check that the emergency call system still functions properly. Faults in the emergency call system are to be checked and rectified.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Example of faults in emergency call system:

- Message: "TELEAID/SOS defective! Drive to workshop" in the multifunction display of the instrument cluster.

- TELE AID indicator lamp "SOS" in the overhead control panel is permanently on while driving.

With Star Diagnosis in the control unit

"TEL/TELEAID-fixed installation telephone, emergency call, MB-Info, telediagnosis", read out and process any fault codes. More information on possible fault codes is available in TIPS or from the responsible market support.

When the following buttons (emergency call, telediagnosis, MB-Info) are actuated, the following fault code is filed that are not diagnosis relevant:

DA01 Telediagnosis has not been authorized

DB01 MB Info has not been authorized

D801 Emergency call has not been authorized

These fault codes are to be ignored because they refer to the deactivated TELE AID services.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The message "TELEAID not activated" in the instrument cluster's multifunction display is informational! It is shown at each start for approx.10 s. If the customer expressly requests it, this message can be removed as follows:

Select the following menus with STAR DIAGNOSIS:

Step 1:

- "Control units"

- "Information and communication"

- "Audio, video, navigation and telematics"

- "TEL/TELEAID - Fixed installation telephone, Emergency call, MB Info

Tele diagnosis"

- "Control unit adaptations"

- "Authorization: Messages on the multifunction display"

Step 2:

- In the "Authorization: Messages in multifunction display" menu, continue by pressing the F3 button (Yes/Continue).

- Set message in instrument cluster multifunction display to

- "NOT ACTIVATED".

- Pressing button F5 (coding) and then button F3 (Yes) copies the coding into the control unit.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To ensure full functionality of the emergency call system is given it is necessary to retain all the "TELE AID" relevant menu settings in the other control units.

Next to the TELE AID control unit, the following control units contain important codings that contribute to the emergency call system function:

Airbag (ARMADA), instrument cluster and central gateway (CGW).

Changes to the menu settings stored in Star Diagnosis

may result in fault messages and malfunctions!

Exception: The previously-described menu change to the setting in the TELE AID control unit to suppress the message "TELE AID not activated" in the instrument cluster.

The "Emergency call 112" function is retained and the fixed installation telephony set at the factory is still used in the vehicle.

Any customer requests calling for conversion of or suppression of the emergency call system must be coordinated with the manufacturer.

Please contact your local market support person for any queries or problems with this particular subject.
