With a Service Information bulletin from 2008 and the introduction of the new Exhaust Emissions Inspection Directive as per 01.10.2008, AG approved the OBD procedure for the exhaust emissions inspection for all commercial vehicles equipped with the corresponding European On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) system. As per 1.1.8 of the Exhaust Emissions Inspection Directive, the vehicle manufacturer can approve the OBD procedure (3.6 Exhaust Emissions Inspection Directive). The OBD system must comply with the regulations governed by Directive 2005/55/EG or each subsequently modified version (Field V, 9 of Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate, Section 1).
This basic approval of the OBD procedure for vehicles equipped with an OBD system as per the regulations governed by Directive 2005/55/EG or each subsequently modified version is only possible to a limited extent where the exhaust emissions inspection device is used in combination with exhaust emissions inspection software as per Device Guidelines 5. This is why a change is required to the manufacturer specification for the affected vehicles for conducting the exhaust emissions inspection.
Change to manufacturer specification
With the publication of this Service Information bulletin, the OBD procedure (3.6) as per 1.1.8 of the Exhaust Emissions Inspection Directive is to be used only for vehicles equipped with an OBD system governed by the regulations of Directive 2005/55/EG or each subsequently modified version with the following specifications in Field 14.1 of the Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate Section 1:
Field 14.1 (Code Emissions Class) |
0683, 0684 |
0690, 0691 |
For vehicles equipped with an OBD system governed by regulations in Directive 2005/55/EG or each subsequently modified version with specification equivalent to 0682 in Field 14.1, the exhaust emissions inspection is to be conducted as per Exhaust Emissions Inspection Directive 3.5 (Diesel procedure) in combination with a flue gas measurement (smoke opacity measurement). The necessary speed and temperature recording can still be run through the OBD interface.
