General information

Comfort closing always causes the driver and passenger doors to be locked first, which, in contrast to vehicles with central locking (CL) can also be accomplished with the aid of the radio remote control (2) in addition to with the vehicle key or with the two unlock/lock buttons (S140s5, S141s3) (see function description "Central locking (CL), function").

In addition to locking, the side windows can be opened as wide as desired and the tilting/sliding roof can be raised when operated with the vehicle key on the driver door lock.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Requirements

The ignition is switched off.

The driver and passenger door are locked..

The tilting/sliding roof lock is deactivated (indicator LED of button in tilting/sliding roof lock (S91) in switch module 10
roof (A83) does not come on), so that the tilting/sliding roof can be opened.

If both vehicle doors are open when unlocking, they not unlocked. I.e.: A door already unlocked, is not unlocked a second time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Comfort opening with vehicle key

It is only possible to unlock the vehicle door, in whose lock the vehicle key is turned to the unlock position; it not possible to unlock the two vehicle doors centrally. Moreover, the comfort opening function of the two side windows and the tilting/sliding roof can only be activated with the vehicle key and only via the driver door lock.

Unlocking with driver door lock is described below:

If the vehicle key it turned to the stop to left to the unlock position in the driver door lock, the driver door locking motor (M11) is actuated mechanically via a linkage and the driver door is unlocked.

The locking operation is sensed by the driver door module (TMF) (A66) via a switch in the driver door locking motor (M11), actuating it electronically so that the motor drive of the driver door locking motor (M11) also moves to the lock position, where the tappet is already located.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is made possible by mechanically decoupling motor drive and tappet.

After successful unlocking the driver door module (TMF) (A66) outputs a corresponding
CAN message to the interior CAN (CAN 2).

The base module (BM) [GM] (A7) reads in this CAN message and electronically actuates the driver interior lamp and passenger interior lamp whereby they come on for approx. 10 s.

Since the passenger door is not unlocked, the driver door module (TMF) (A66) does not transmit a corresponding
CAN message to the interior CAN (CAN 2).

The passenger door is unlocked via the passenger door lock in the same manner as unlocking the driver door.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During the unlocking operation the driver door module (TMF) (A66) monitors permanently the switch status of the driver door lock switch (S87).

If the vehicle key is held in the unlock position beyond the unlocking time (without interruption, for longer than 2 s), the driver door module (TMF) (A66) recognizes that comfort opening of the two side windows and the tilting/sliding roof is activated.

The vehicle key must still be held in the unlock position, otherwise opening of the two side windows is interrupted as described and can only be continued by a new activation.

The driver door module (TMF) (A66) outputs the
CAN messages to open the passenger door side windows and tilting/sliding roof to the interior CAN (CAN 2) and electronically actuates the driver door power window motor (M7), which completely opens the driver door side window.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When the passenger door module control unit (TMB) (A67) receives the CAN message to open the side windows, it electronically actuates the passenger door power window motor (M8), which opens the passenger door side window.

If both side windows are opened, both control units transmit a corresponding CAN message on the on the entire unlocking status of the driver and passenger door to the interior CAN (CAN 2).

If the base module (BM) [GM] (A7) receives the CAN message via interior CAN (CAN 2) to open the tilting/sliding roof, it electronically actuates the tilting/sliding roof motor (M6) until the tilting/sliding roof is raised.

On vehicles with code (FZ5) Anti-theft alarm system with load compartment motion sensor (EDW) or with code (FZ8) Anti-theft alarm system (ATA) without interior protection, the base module (BM) [GM] (A7) additionally deactivates the anti-theft alarm system (ATA).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Comfort opening with radio remote control (2)

The driver door can be unlocked alone or the driver and passenger door can unlocked centrally with the radio remote control (2).

It is not possible to activate comfort opening of both sides and tilting/sliding roof with radio remote control (2).

When the unlock button on the radio remote control (2) is pressed momentarily once, the base module (BM) [GM] (A7) receives a radio signal to unlock the driver door.

When the unlock button is pressed twice in sequence, the radio signal contains information to unlock the driver and passenger door.

The base module (BM) [GM] (A7) evaluates the received radio signals and outputs a CAN message to the interior CAN (CAN 2), which is evaluated by the driver door module (TMF) (A66).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The driver door module control unit (TMB) (A66) reads in the CAN message to unlock the passenger door, electronically actuates the passenger door locking motor (M11), which unlocks the driver door and transmits a CAN message that the passenger door has been unlocked successfully to the interior CAN (CAN 2).

The passenger door module control unit (TMB) (A67) reads in the CAN message to unlock the passenger door and electronically actuates the passenger door locking motor (M12), which unlocks the passenger door.

The passenger door module control unit (TMB) (A67) recognizes when the passenger door is unlocked successfully via a switch in the passenger door locking motor and transmits a corresponding CAN message to the interior CAN (CAN 2).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On vehicles with code (FZ5) Anti-theft alarm system with load compartment motion sensor (EDW) or with code (FZ8) Anti-theft alarm system (ATA) without interior protection, the base module (BM) [GM] (A7) also deactivates the anti-theft alarm system (ATA).

After successfully unlocking the driver and passenger door with the radio remote control (2), the driver door module (TMF) (A66) transmits a CAN message to output a visual status feedback (by momentarily actuating the turn signal lamps) to the base module (BM) [GM] (A7).

The base module (BM) [GM] (A7) then outputs the CAN messages for actuating the turn signal lamps once to the interior CAN (CAN 1) and frame CAN (CAN 3).

The messages are transmitted via interior CAN (CAN 1) to the instrument (INS) (P2), when electronically actuates the following lamps:

- the left vehicle turn signal indicator lamp (P2h2) and, with additional trailer operation, the left trailer turn signal indicator lamp (P2h4)

- the right vehicle turn signal indicator lamp (P2h3) and, with additional trailer operation, the right trailer turn signal indicator lamp (P2h5)

The CAN messages are transmitted to the front module (FM) (A64) and rear module (HM) (A65) via the frame-CAN (CAN 3).

The front module (FM) electronically actuates the turn signal lamp (E8e1) in the left lamp unit (E8), the turn signal lamp (E20e1) in the left combined turn signal and clearance lamp (E20), turn signal lamp (E9e1) in the right lamp unit (E9) and turn signal lamp (E21e1) in the right combined turn signal and clearance lamp (E21) with its own output stages.

The rear module (HM) (A65) electronically actuates the turn signal lamp (E3e5) in the left taillamp (E3) and the turn signal lamp (E4e5) in the right taillamp (E4) with its own output stages.

If no door is opened within a time of 25 s (parameterizable) after the locking operation with the radio remote control, both doors are locked and the ATA (if present) is reactivated.
