Danger | Risk of death when working on component parts and systems with U >= 30 V alternating voltage (AC) or U >= 60 V direct voltage (DC) | Do not touch damaged or defective live component parts and lines or non-insulated electrical connections and lines.
Warning | Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.

Notes on coolant level | |||
Drain off | |||
1 | Lock electric coolant pumps using vehicle diagnosis system.
| Connect/disconnect diagnostic unit | ||
| |||
Fully execute specified process.
Do not yet remove diagnostic system.
2 | Remove cap (2) of coolant expansion reservoir (1). | First unscrew cap (2) counterclockwise to first detent and release overpressure. Then remove cap (2).
3 | Remove lower engine compartment lining
4 | Slide a suitable hose (3), as shown, onto fitting at coolant radiator (5).
5 | Drain off coolant. | For this purpose, open drain screw (4) and unscrew until coolant drains off. Fully drain and collect coolant. Do not yet screw in drain screw (4).
Commercially available devices/tools
6 | Replace sealing ring at drain screw (4). | If drain screw (4) was leaky.
Assembly tool | |||
7 | Lower vehicle. | ||
8 | Attach tester cap (8) to coolant expansion reservoir (1). | Test cap
9 | Attach pressure pump (9) to tester cap (8). | Pressure pump
Test cap | |||
10 | Generate pressure with pressure pump (9) until coolant no longer emerges.
Collect coolant. | |||
Commercially available devices/tools
Pressure pump | |||
11 | Raise vehicle. | ||
12 | Tighten drain screw (4). | Drain screw to main circuit coolant radiator
13 | Remove hose (3) from fitting at coolant radiator (5).
14 | Remove connection fittings (7) from axle drive module (6) and drain off coolant.
Fully collect escaping coolant.
Commercially available devices/tools
15 | Lower vehicle. | ||
16 | Generate pressure with pressure pump (9) until coolant no longer emerges.

23 | Connect charger to 12 volt on-board electrical system battery.
Bleeding of main circuit with vehicle diagnosis system takes approx. 15 min. A constant 12 volt power supply is required for this purpose.
24 | Bleed main circuit. | ||
| |||
Electric coolant pumps are automatically released during the bleed process.
If the high-voltage on-board electrical system is no in operation:
| |||
Put the high-voltage on-board electrical system into operation.
25 | Remove vehicle diagnosis system.
| Connect/disconnect diagnostic unit | ||
26 | Remove charger from 12 volt on-board electrical system battery.
| Check | ||
27 | Check coolant level. | If necessary:
| |||
Correct coolant level.
