Detach oil filler line at the front (10) at oil pan (1)

 Installation: Check sealing ring, replace oil filler line (10) if necessary.

Detach oil filler line on the side (12) at oil pan (1)

 Installation: Check sealing ring, replace oil filler line on the side (12) if necessary.

Pull oil dipstick (3) out of oil dipstick guide tube top section (5)

 Only if an oil dipstick (3) is installed.

Remove oil dipstick guide tube top section (5) at oil dipstick guide tube bottom section (8) and pull upwards at bracket for oil filling line on the side (12)

 Installation: Align rubber grommet at bracket for oil filling line on the side (12).

Remove electrical engine wiring harness (11) for oil level sensor (B14) to oil pan (1)

only for engines up to engine end no. 051234

Disconnect connector for electrical engine wiring harness (11) on oil level sensor (B14)

 For engines from engine end no. 051235 the oil level sensor (B14) is located at the right side on the oil pan (1).

Remove clamps for retarder coolant pipes (23) on holder (26), press retarder coolant pipes (23) to the side and fasten in place

Detach bracket (24) on crankcase

Detach oil pan (1)

 Installation: In the case of micro-encapsulated bolts recut the threaded holes in crankcase, timing case and front housing cover and clean or blow out.

Install new micro-encapsulated bolts.

Pay attention to tightening procedure for bolts.

Remove seal (2)

 Install: Install new seal (2).

Clean sealing surfaces of oil pan (1) at timing case, crankcase and front housing cover.

 Installation: Coat Loctite sealant 5970 on the connecting points (arrows) for the timing case and front housing cover

Remove fitting (6, 9), oil level sensor (B14) and oil dipstick guide tube bottom section (8) on oil pan (1)

 Only when installing a new oil pan (1).

 Installation: Replace oil level sensor (B14) and clamping plate for attaching the oil dipstick guide tube lower section (8).



Install in the reverse order

 Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Start engine and allow to run in idle for 10 s until the oil pressure has built up, then run the engine at varying speeds

Turn off engine and check area of oil pan (1) for leaks

 Visual inspection.

Check engine oil level using oil dipstick (3) or on display; correct if necessary

 Inspect engine oil level after waiting at least 5 min. after switching off the engine



Read out nominal and actual values for level control of the front axle with Star Diagnosis and compare with the previously printed out values

One must wait for a short time until the actual values are compared with the output specifications.

The driving height must be re-calibrated if the actual values deviate by more than  2 mm from the output specifications:


