Modification notes
| Checking | ||
1 | Measure vehicle level at the front and rear axle
2 | Carrying initial measurement of wheel alignment
3 | Compare the measured toe-out on turns with specified value | The steering geometry is checked by measuring the toe-out angle. This is the steer angle difference between the outer and inner wheel for an inner wheel steer angle of 20°.
Toe-out angle with inside wheel steered through 20°
If substantial deviations are found, the cause may be one of the following, assuming that the camber and caster settings are correct: The toe is not adjusted in the straight-ahead position of the rack-and-pinion steering so that uneven tie rod lengths have resulted, Deformation of steering parts or tie rods e.g. through damage due to an accident, Deformation of front axle carrier or of chassis parts, e.g. through damage due to an accident, Deformation of the body, e.g. due to accident damage.
Check for impermissible deformation on the body. See:
Check accident vehicles and vehicles possibly damaged in an accident. |
