Due to current inspection findings on front-axle shock absorbers in model series 211 we would like to notify you here about how to proceed when installing and removing or disassembling/assembling shock absorbers and struts.
No impact wrench must be used while loosening or tightening the nut at piston rod (2).
The piston rod (2) also rotates and this could lead to friction marks (arrow) in the damper tube (1) and at sealing piston (a).
As described in the relevant AR document "Disassembling/assembling suspension struts" (AR32.25-P-1018*), the piston rod must be counterheld using a suitable tool at the upper end when releasing and tightening.
Turning with the impact wrench/driver chips are created, which are deposited in the sealing piston and which in turn damage the piston rod sealing.
In this instance the damper sealing capability is no longer given.
