Danger ! | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off during lifting | Only lift vehicle at the lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
Danger ! | Risk of injury. Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. | No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area of the mechanism when the components are moving.
Danger ! | Risk of injury to skin or eyes from hydraulic fluid spraying out under pressure.Risk of poisoning from swallowing hydraulic fluid. | Depressurize hydraulic system completely before starting any work on it. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses.
Danger ! | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
| Special instructions for lifting and supporting vehicle | ||
Bleeding | |||
1 | Secure vehicle against rolling
2 | Check whether the auxiliary steering has been activated | To do this, switch on ignition, the indicator lamp in the EHZ [electronic-hydraulic auxiliary steering switch] (centering) must not light up.
3 | Detach return line (1) from valve unit (4) on T-piece (2), add oil and fit return line (1) back onto T-piece (2) | Only when the power steering pump and/or the hydraulic lines are dry.
To do so, release the T-piece (2), twist it upwards and add oil until the power steering pump and the hydraulic lines are full.
Steering gear oil (ATF)
4 | Place front-axle wheels onto turntable or raise and jack up front axle
5 | Bleed steering circuit (primary) of front axle at valve unit (4)
6 | Place wheels for auxiliary steering axle onto turntable, lift or raise auxiliary steering axle then jack up
According to vehicle load.
7 | Bleed steering circuit (secondary) of auxiliary steering on control block (5)
8 | Initialize steering angle sensors
At the end of the teach-in process the ventilation status of the steering circuit for the auxiliary steering is checked. If ventilation is not OK, then the steering circuit (operation step 7) is bled again.
9 | Raise front axle, remove turntable or jack stands and lower front axle
10 | Raise auxiliary steering axle, remove turntable or jack stands and lower auxiliary steering axle
11 | Check oil level in oil reservoir, correct if necessary | Steering gear oil (ATF)
12 | Conduct a road test | During the road test check the overall steering behavior of the vehicle. |
