Modification notes
| Remove/install | ||
| Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts | ||
Danger! | Risk of injury caused by body parts being pinched or crushed as cab is tilted | Ensure that no one is within the tilting range of the cab as it is being tilted. Always tilt the cab all the way to the end position and secure with the safety strut.
1 | Tilt cab | The front flap must always be opened when tilting.
| Notes on tilting the cab | ||
2 | Remove bottom and top sections of soundproofing capsule
3 | Remove cover plate on transmission
4 | Remove step platform above transmission
5 | Detach cab carrier (1) from frame | Cut cable ties and put the cab carrier (1) to one side with the lines connected.
| |||
6 | Detach brake unit carrier (2) from frame | Separate cable ties and put brake unit carrier (2) to one side with lines connected.
| |||
7 | Detach propeller shaft (13) from output flange of transmission
Danger! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
8.1 | Disconnect coolant lines from retarder | Only on vehicles with code (BA9) Voith secondary retarder R 115.
8.2 | Remove Telma retarder | Only on vehicles with code (BD9) Telma retarder Focal F 3300.
9 | Disconnect adapter or connections on PTO
10 | Detach hydraulic gear shift cylinder from transmission | Only on vehicles with code (GS3) "Hydraulic" gearshift. Place hydraulic gear shift cylinder to one side with lines still connected.
11 | Detach hydraulic gate shift cylinder from transmission | Only on vehicles with code (GS3) "Hydraulic" gearshift. Place hydraulic gate shift cylinder to one side with lines still connected.
12 | Remove gearshift linkage | Only on vehicles with code (GS1) "Manual" gearshift.
13 | Detach compressed air connection on right and left of shift mechanism | Installation: Replace the sealing rings.
| |||
14 | Remove compressed-air line (8)
15 | Disconnect speed sensor electrical connector (11) | Installation: Attach tamperproof seal to speed sensor
16 | Remove bolts (14) from both transmission brackets
17 | Detach intake hose (7) from intake pipe
18 | Detach exhaust hose (18) from exhaust gas turbocharger | Installation: Mount the exhaust hose free of tension.
19 | Lift transmission with engine hoist (9) | When lifting, pay attention to the fan wheel. Prop up the engine by placing wooden blocks between the exhaust manifolds and frame.
Engine support device, engine hoist
20 | Detach starter line from brackets
21 | Remove clutch booster (16) | Do not disconnect the connected hydraulic lines.
| Notes on removing clutch slave cylinder with hydraulic lines still connected | Only on vehicles with code (GE1) Electronic drive control. | |
22 | Disconnect oil cooler lines (5) at connection to transmission and plug using suitable plugs | Catch escaping oil.
23 | Detach oil lines (5) from brackets and tie to frame side member
24 | Disconnect electrical connector (4)
25 | Remove bolts (17) on circumference of transmission and lift out transmission | When lifting out, ensure that the electrical cables and pneumatic lines are not damaged.
Installation: Make sure that the release lever (19) is at the correct installation position relative to the clutch operator.
With drive plate without nickel-plated hub surface:
Lightly grease input shaft.
With drive plate with nickel-plated hub surface:
The transmission input shaft, guide tube and inner slide surface (plastic coating) in the clutch release bearing must not be greased, otherwise the grease will gum up which can result in malfunctions.
| Hub surface of drive plate is nickel-plated | ||
26 | Install in the reverse order
27 | Check transmission oil level and refill with transmission oil if necessary | The transmission oil must reach the bottom edge of the oil filler opening.
| Manual transmission - oil change | ||
28 | Initialize control unit for gear control (GS/EPS) | Only on vehicles with code (GE1) Electronic drive control or code (GS2) Gear control. |
