Danger | Risk of fire/risk of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or body orifices. Risk of death due to voltage U >= 30 V AC and U >= 60 V DC. | No fires, sparks, open flames, or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing, and glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
2 | Disconnect ground line from battery
Topical note | Notes on battery
Warning | Risk of injury caused by body parts being pinched or crushed as cab is tilted | Ensure that no one is within the tilting range of the cab as it is being tilted. Always tilt the cab all the way to the end position and secure it with the safety strut.
3 | Tilt cab | ||
Topical note | Notes on tilting the cab
Installation: Only tilt back cab after the leak test.
4 | Remove injection line for exhaust aftertreatment system
Only for vehicles with code MS4 (BlueTec 4) or with code MS5 (BlueTec 5).
5 | Remove charge air pipe from exhaust gas turbocharger (1) to charge air cooler
6 | Remove air intake hose (9)
7 | Remove engine brake cylinder
8 | Loosen bracket (6) of engine brake cylinder and swivel to the side
9 | Remove shield (2) | Bolt, shield to turbocharger
10 | Remove exhaust pipe (4) from the engine brake valve fitting (5) and from bracket | Bolt, clamp to exhaust pipe on valve fitting for engine brake/exhaust fitting
11 | Remove oil return hose (3) from exhaust gas turbocharger (1) | Collect escaping engine oil and seal bores.
12 | Remove oil pressure line (8) | Collect escaping engine oil and seal bores.
Installation: Before installing the oil pressure line (8), the bearing of the exhaust gas turbocharger (1) must be filled with engine oil through the oil pressure bore. Rotate ATL shaft by hand during this step so that bearing points are provided with a film of oil.

13 | Remove exhaust gas turbocharger (1) with engine brake valve fitting (5) from the exhaust manifold (7) | Nut, turbocharger to exhaust manifold
Stud bolt on exhaust manifold
14 | Remove engine brake valve fitting (5) from the exhaust gas turbocharger (1) and seal bores on the engine brake valve fitting (5) | Only if replacing turbocharger (1).
Engine 902.9, 925.9, 926.9Nut, engine brake flap fitting to turbocharger
15 | Remove oil return feed line from the exhaust gas turbocharger (1) | Only if replacing turbocharger (1).
Bolt, oil return flow line to turbocharger
16 | Install in the reverse order
17 | Check engine oil level at display; correct if necessary
Notes on engine oil | |||
Observe engine oil grade set in maintenance system or Specifications for Operating Fluids.
Warning | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
18 | Start engine and allow to run in idle for 10 s until the oil pressure has built up, then run the engine at varying speeds
19 | Switch off engine and check area of the exhaust gas turbocharger (1) for leak tightness | Visual inspection.
20 | Synchronize time between tachograph disk and display |
