Coolant filler neck

 Warning

Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Remove

Remove front lower engine compartment lining.

Remove cap of the coolant expansion reservoir.

Model 470, 471 with engine 642, 699

 Turn cap of coolant expansion reservoir first counterclockwise to safety catch and release overpressure, then remove cap.

Remove cap of the coolant filler neck.

 Turn cap of coolant filler neck first counterclockwise to safety catch and release overpressure, then remove cap.



Check

3.1

Check coolant level at coolant expansion reservoir (1).

If the coolant level is not correct,



Correct coolant level.

Check coolant level at coolant filler neck (4).

Set heating system to max. heating output.

Attach adapter (3) to the coolant expansion reservoir (1).

Attach tester cap to the coolant expansion reservoir (1).

Attach pressure pump (2) to the adapter (3).

Apply test pressure to engine cooling system.


Do not exceed the specified test pressure.
Otherwise, damage to the engine cooling system will occur.

Check leak tightness of the engine cooling system.

 Perform visual check on the top and bottom of the engine compartment.
Visually inspect interior of vehicle.

If coolant loss has occurred,



Localize and eliminate cause.

Actuate pressure release button at pressure pump (2) and reduce test pressure in engine cooling system.

Remove pressure pump (2) with adapter (3) from the coolant expansion reservoir (1).

If coolant loss was detected.
