Remove

Drain coolant at both drain screws of coolant connection (return).

Remove chips stuck to drain plugs.
The cooling system can get damaged otherwise.

Detach locking pressure line (return) (1) at top of retarder (2).

 Collect escaping coolant using suitable vessel.

Seal fitting (3) with stop plug (4).

Remove coolant temperature sensor (B933).

Remove evaporation tray (5).

Counterhold threaded fitting and use box wrench bit to unscrew union nuts of locking pressure line (feed) (6).



Remove locking pressure line (feed) (6).

Screw connection line (8) onto connection of locking pressure line (feed) (6).

Connect pressure pump (7) to connection line (8).

Apply test pressure to seals in rotor housing.

 If the seals in the rotor housing are not OK, then generally a noticeable or audible pressure drop will occur at the top of the opening (arrow) of the coolant temperature sensor (B933).

If there is no pressure drop,



end the test and continue with operation step 14.

Drain transmission oil and check transmission oil for coolant.

Only if the seals in the rotor housing are defective.



If coolant is present in the transmission oil,



after installation of the retarder (2), replace the transmission oil and heat up to  50 °C. Then check the transmission oil again.

Remove connection line (8) and pressure pump (7).

Install locking pressure line (feed) (6).

Install evaporation tray (5).

 Bolt, evaporative-emission pan to retarder housing

Install coolant temperature sensor (B933).

Remove stop plug (4) from fitting (3).

Check sealing ring in quick-release coupling of locking pressure line (return) (1).

If sealing ring of locking pressure line (return) (1) is damaged,



replace locking pressure line (return) (1).

Install locking pressure line (return) (1) at top of retarder (2).

 Coat the sealing ring with lubricant. The safety clip must latch into place on the locking pressure line (return) (1). Collect escaping coolant using suitable vessel.
