Service information: Conversion of vehicles with emissions standard Euro 4 or 5 to emissions standard Euro 3

Introduction

With immediate effect it is possible to convert vehicles with emissions standard Euro 4 or Euro 5 to emissions standard Euro 3. The conversion represents an option for vehicles which are intended for export to countries in which the statutory requirements correspond to emissions standard Euro 3.

Only vehicles may be converted which are outside the term of warranty.

The conversion may only take place via a company with output dynamometer. The corresponding locations of output dynamometers SI00.00-W-0037A are listed in the <>.

Vehicle model series

The conversion can only be carried out on the following model series:
 Actros model 930, 932, 933, 934 with engine 541.9
 The engine with 480 BHP can only be converted to 460 BHP Euro 3.

 Axor model 375, 940, 942, 943, 944 with engine 457.9, without code (MZ4) turbobrake

Extent of conversion

The conversion basically comprises the exchange of injection nozzles and change of software in the engine control (MR) control unit. All the components of the Euro 4/5- exhaust gas aftertreatment system remain in the vehicle, but are partially shut down. The in-engine components correspond to those of a Euro 4/5 engine.

Replacement parts for converted vehicles

 In the event of an engine replacement the engine and the necessary conversion parts package must be determined via the Parts Hotline of the Global Logistics Center [GLC] Germersheim:

The reconditioned engine should be converted analog to the document specified below.

 If the muffler is changed an identical design of muffler with reduction catalytic converter is supplied.

 The corresponding Euro components 4/5 (pistons, connecting rods, turbocharger etc.) are to be kept available for the engine. Euro 3 replacement parts are not suitable for these engines.

Certification

The required manufacturer's certification is stored in the documents mentioned below. The workshops can print this out and confirm the conversion carried out by signature or stamp.

On the engine (close to the engine model plate) and in the area of the driver door corresponding markings about the conversion are applied. The engine model designation or engine number have not been changed.

Transport of vehicle after the conversion

The client is responsible for the transport of the vehicle to and from the location of the company with output dynamometer. As after the conversion the vehicle still only meets emissions standard Euro 3, the national regulations should be observed during subsequent transport.

Any special approvals from the national authorities or transfer/export identifications etc. are required for transport on "its own axle".
