MODEL 204.9

Function requirements, general

Circuit 15C OFF

Central locking operation with transmitter key (A8/1), general

The central locking can be operated with the transmitter key.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The CL function operation with transmitter key comprises the following partial functions:

Function sequence for presetting global or selective unlocking

Function sequence for locking or unlocking

Function sequence for optical locking feedback

Function sequence for acoustic locking feedback (as of 1.6.10)

Function sequence for trunk lid remote opening (model 204.0/3) or liftgate remote opening (model 204.2/9 with code (890) EASY-PACK liftgate)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Function sequence for presetting global or selective unlocking

If the unlock and lock buttons on the transmitter key are pressed simultaneously for t = 5 seconds, a change between the "global" and "selective" settings takes place.
The indicator lamp on the transmitter key comes on for confirmation.

Global unlocking:
The entire vehicle is unlocked by pressing the "Unlock" button on the transmitter key.

Selective unlocking:
Only the driver door and fuel filler flap are unlocked when the "Unlock" button on the transmitter key is pressed. The entire vehicle is unlocked only when the button is pressed again.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Function sequence for locking or unlocking

When the lock or unlock button on the transmitter key is pressed, it transmits radio signals via the FM, AM and ZV antenna amplifiers (A2/18) (model 204.0/3) or rear window antenna amplifier 1 (A2/71) (model 204.2/9), rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and interior CAN (CAN B) to the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73).

Parallel to the radio signal, the transmitter key transmits infrared signals via the driver side front door infrared remote control receiver (A26/1) (precise aiming required), left rear door control unit (N69/1) and interior CAN to the electronic ignition lock control unit.

The infrared and radio signals include the same information (redundant); the first signal received is accepted. This function serves for operating safety in the event that the radio signal is blocked by interference such as electromagnetic fields.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In both cases the electronic ignition lock control unit checks the access authorization of the transmitter key.

If the access authorization is valid, the electronic ignition switch control unit transmits the request "Lock" or "Unlock" via the interior CAN to the following control units:

- Left front door control unit

- Right front door control unit (N69/2)

- Front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) (up to 30.11.09)

- left rear door control unit (N69/3)
(on model 204.0/2/9 as of 1.12.09)

- right rear door control unit (N69/4)
(on model 204.0/2/9 as of 1.12.09)

- Rear SAM control unit

The left front door control unit locks or unlocks the left front door lock (A85) via the left front door central locking motor (A85m1).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The right front door control unit locks or unlocks the right front door lock (A85/1) via the right front door central locking motor (A85/1m1)

Vehicles up to 30.11.09:

The front SAM control unit locks or unlocks the left rear door lock (A85/3) over the left rear door central locking motor (A85/3m1) and the right rear door lock (A85/4) over the right rear door central locking motor (A85/4m1).

Model 204.0/2/9 as of 1.12.09:

The left rear door control unit locks or unlocks the left rear door lock over the left rear door central locking motor.

The right rear door control unit locks or unlocks the right rear door lock over the right rear door central locking motor.

The rear SAM control unit locks or unlocks the tank cap over the tank cap central locking motor (M14/10).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The rear SAM control unit inhibits the opening request via the trunk lid external operation switch (S88/8) (model 204.0/3) or liftgate external operation switch (S88/8) (model 204.2/9) or enables the request accordingly.

The status of the vehicle doors as well as the trunk lid or lift gate is sensed over the following switches:

- Left front door rotary tumbler switch (A85s1) in
left front door lock ()

- Right front door rotary tumbler switch (A85/1s1) in
)right front door lock ()

- Left rear door rotary tumbler switch (A85/3s1) (on model 204.0/2/9) in left rear door lock

- Right rear door rotary tumbler switch (A85/4s1) (on model 204.0/2/9) in right rear door lock

- Trunk lid rotary tumbler switch (M14/7s1) in trunk lid central locking motor (M14/7)
(model 204.0/3) or liftgate rotary tumbler switch (M14/7s1) in liftgate central locking motor (M14/7) (model 204.2/9)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The corresponding door, trunk lid or liftgate is locked or unlocked, depending on the status (open or closed).

On model 204.0/2/3 for Great Britain, the following actuator motors are actuated in addition:

- Left front door additional door lock actuator motor (A85m4) actuated by left front door control unit

- Right front door additional door lock actuator motor (A85/1m4) actuated by right front door control unit

- Left rear door additional door lock actuator motor (A85/3m4)
(on model 204.0/2) actuated by left rear door control unit

- Right rear door additional door lock actuator motor (A85/4m4)
(on model 204.0/2) actuated by right rear door control unit

Vehicles with code (551) Anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW]):

If the driver door in the locked vehicle is opened mechanically with the emergency key, the anti-theft alarm system (ATA) triggers an alarm.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Function sequence for optical locking feedback

After the CL is locked or unlocked successfully, a visual feedback is output via the turn signals.

The electronic ignition lock transmits the request "Lock" or "Unlock" to the front SAM control unit via the interior CAN. The front SAM control unit then actuates the hazard warning flashing function by means of outputting the flasher frequency over the interior CAN. All turn signals are actuated synchronously on the vehicle.

One flashing cycle is output when unlocking

Three flashing cycles are output when locking

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If a door is still open when locking, there is no visual feedback.

The front door control units transmit the status of the corresponding front door to the electronic ignition lock control unit via the interior CAN. The rear door control unit transmit the status of the corresponding rear door via the interior CAN.

Detailed information on performing the hazard warning flasher function, is included in the function description "Exterior lights, function" in the partial function "Turn signal light actuation, function".

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Function sequence for acoustic locking feedback (as of 1.6.10)

The acoustic locking feedback function is selected via the control level in the instrument cluster (A1).

The instrument cluster transmits the corresponding status via interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.

When the function is activated, the front SAM control unit momentarily actuates the left horn (H2) and the right horn (H2/1) via the horn relays (N10/1kO) after successful locking and unlocking. For this purpose the electronic ignition lock control unit transmits the "Lock" or "Unlock" request to the front SAM control unit via the interior CAN.

Number of acoustic signals:

- Locking: three times

- Unlocking: once

If, during locking a door, the trunk lid (model 204.0/3) or the liftgate (model 204.2/9) is open, the acoustic locking feedback does not sound.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The front door control units transmit the status of the corresponding front door to the electronic ignition lock control unit via the interior CAN. The rear door control units transmit the status of the corresponding rear door to the electronic ignition lock control unit via the interior CAN.

On vehicles as of 1.6.10 with code (494) USA version, the acoustic locking feedback via the horns replaces the acoustic locking feedback via the alarm siren (H3/1).

Function sequence for trunk lid remote opening (model 204.0/3) or liftgate remote opening (model 204.2/9 with code (890) EASY-PACK liftgate)

When the trunk lid/liftgate remote opening button on the transmitter key is pressed, it transmits radio signal via the FM, AM and ZV antenna amplifier (model 204.0/3) or rear window antenna amplifier 1 (model 204.2/9), rear SAM control unit and interior CAN to the electronic ignition lock control unit.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The electronic ignition switch control unit checks the transmitter key's access authorization.

If the access authorization is valid, the electronic ignition switch control unit transmits the request "Unlock" to the rear SAM control unit via the interior CAN.

On model 204.0/3, the trunk lid rotary tumbler is unlocked by the trunk lid central locking motor. The trunk lid is then opened mechanically by spring force as far as the upper stop.

On model 204.2/9, the liftgate rotary tumbler is unlocked by the liftgate central locking motor. The liftgate is then opened automatically.

Detailed information for liftgate control is given in the separate document "Liftgate control, function".
