Interlock circuit
The interlock circuit is used as protection to protect people against inadvertent contact with high-voltage components.
A 12 V/88Hz interlock signal is looped here through all high voltage system components that are to be dismantled or opened.
To do this there is a contact bridge in each removable high voltage plug connection which interrupt the interlock circuit during removal of the high voltage plug connection. The interlock circuit is also led switched in a series over the 12 V control units plug connection of the high-voltage components.

Location
The 3kW onboard charger is located in the engine compartment directly behind the electric motor drive (M5). The Powerline Gateway control unit is integrated into the housing of the 3kW onboard charger.
For code (908) 22KW onboard charger the 22kW onboard charger (N83/10) is installed instead of the 3 kW onboard charger.
Task
The respective onboard charger converts the AC voltage of the power network, feeds it in over the charger feed socket (X58/23), as an approx. U = 380 V high voltage direct voltage with which the high-voltage battery (G5) is charged.

22KThe function of the Powerline Gateway control unit for a 22kW onboard charger (for code (908) kW onboard charger) is integrated into the electronics and allows communication and data exchange between the vehicle and an intelligent charging station or the "Daimler Backend" (server) for the "Vehicle Homepage".
The onboard charger has the following tasks:
Reading in of sensors and signals
Evaluation of input factors
Actuation of components
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reading in of sensors and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
Direct line
Electric vehicle CAN (CAN EV)
Direct line
The following signals are read in via direct lines:
- high voltage interlock
– charging cable locked, status
- charger input socket temperature
– maximum possible charging current over Control Pilot
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Electric vehicle CAN
The following signals are read in via the electric vehicle CAN
- circuit 15, status
– charging current, request
- close request for the charging flap
- set start-off time
- set values for preparatory air conditioning
- time period required for preparatory air conditioning
- preparatory air conditioning, status
- time period required for full charging of the high-voltage battery
– actual voltage of the 12V on-board electrical system
- high-voltage battery charge level
- achievable charge level in the current charge profile
- achievable driving distance for the current charge level
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.
Actuation of components
The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:
Direct line
Electric vehicle CAN
Direct line
The following components are actuated via direct lines:
- charging cable indicator lamp
- charging status indicator lamp
Electric vehicle CAN
The signals are transmitted by the respective onboard charger via the electric vehicle CAN.
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
