Function sequence

The start function is activated by turning the transmitter key from position 2 (tml. 15 On) to position 3 (tml. 50 On) in the ignition/starter switch.

Function

The following sub-functions are active:

Motor electronics (ME-SFI) ignition system
- The static high-voltage is distributed without an ignition distributor straight to the spark plugs

Starter control
- The starter is actuated directly via the starter relay

Cylinder-sequential port injection
- Injection takes place via the fuel injection valves directly upstream of the respective intake valve

Start quantity control
- During the start procedure, additional fuel must be injected in relation to the coolant temperature

Fuel pump actuation
- The fuel pump provides sufficient fuel in all operating conditions

Synchronization of the injection and firing order
- Synchronization is required to actuate the ignition coils and the fuel injection valves

During the hot start phase, vapor locks are prevented in the fuel system by actuation of the pressure regulator valve (Y74). A defective pressure regulator valve can lead to a poor hot starting behavior.
