Danger | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off during lifting | Only lift vehicle at the lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
Warning | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
Warning | Risk of injury from being trapped in the swivel range of steered axles | Ensure that no persons or objects are in the swivel range of all steered axles when turning the steering wheel. Do not stand in the swivel range of the additional steering axle when the engine is running.

| Check | ||
1 | Set steering gear to center position |
| |
2 | Position wheels of front axle on the center of the turntable
3 | Position wheels of steered additional axle at center of turntable
4 | Position alignment bridges under wheels that are not on turntables
5 | Block brake pedal | Brake pedal jack
6 | Start engine | ||
7 | Center the steered additional axle using the axle centering switch (S139) | The indicator lamp in the axle centering switch (S139) must light up.
8 | Turn off engine | ||
9 | Mount components required for wheel alignment check system onto vehicle | See operating instructions for wheel alignment check system.
10 | Check or, if necessary, adjust the toe using the wheel alignment measurement system | Total toe with steering cylinder at center position
If the specified values for the toe are not reached.
| |||
Release nut (7.1) and clamp (7.3). Turn adjusting bolt (7.2) on steering cylinder (7) until the toe value on the side in question is reached. Tighten nut (7.1) and clamp (7.3). After this, release the clamps (8.1) on the tie rod (8), turn the tie rod (8) and adjust the opposite side.
11.1 | Teach-in the steering angle sensor for the additional axle (B97) | If the straight-ahead position or the toe were adjusted.
If the center position of the additional-axle steering angle sensor (B97) is not OK, then the additional-axle steering angle sensor (B97) cannot undergo the teach in process. An incorrect center position for the additional-axle steering angle sensor (B97) is indicated by 2 flashes of the electrohydraulic auxiliary steering indicator lamp.
If the additional-axle steering angle sensor (B97) teach-in process is not possible.
| |||
Mechanically adjust the additional-axle steering angle sensor (B97) and repeat the teach-in process.
