Function and menu navigation of Becker® MAP PILOT control unit are adopted from the manufacturer. An operator's manual is available on the manufacturer website.
General function requirements for navigation
Circuit 30 ON
Transport mode not active
The Becker® MAP PILOT control unit is inserted into the cradle for Becker® MAP PILOT (A2/30)
Signals are available from at least three satellites from the global navigation system (GPS)
The radio/radio with navigation (N87/8) is switched on
Navigation, general
The Becker® MAP PILOT control unit is supported by the following components:
The "Navi" button on the radio/radio with navigation (N87/8) activates the menu
GPS signals from antenna amplifier (A2/123) or via GPS antenna splitter (A28/14) (with code YM1 (FleetBoard vehicle computer))
Voice output over the vehicle speakers
Image output and map display on the display of the radio/radio with navigation (N87/8). View and menu display are generated in the Becker® MAP PILOT control unit
Navigation, function sequence
The Becker® MAP PILOT control unit receives GPS signals to determine the position via a direct line from the antenna amplifier (A2/123) or via the GPS antenna splitter (A28/14) (with code YM1 (FleetBoard vehicle computer)) with the interface cradle for Becker® MAP PILOT (A2/30).
Because GPS works in the gigahertz range (microwaves), the following events may lead to reception interference:
Atmospheric faults (e.g. inclement weather, fog)
Multi-path reception due to signal reflections (e.g. from building walls)
Signal blocking (e.g. in built-up areas, in tunnels, from high buildings or trees)
Traffic messages from the Traffic Message Channel (TMC) are received via direct line by the antenna amplifier (A2/123) and sent via the TMC antenna splitter (A28/13) and the cradle for Becker® MAP PILOT (A2/30) to the Becker® MAP PILOT control unit.
The voice output is sent by the Becker® MAP PILOT control unit via the cradle for Becker® MAP PILOT (A2/30) and direct line to the radio/radio with navigation (N87/8). This amplifies the signals and forwards them to the vehicle speakers. The picture signals of the Becker® MAP PILOT control unit a transmitted via the cradle for Becker® MAP PILOT (A2/30) and a line for low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) to the radio/radio with navigation (N87/8).
Theft protection
The Becker® MAP PILOT control unit can be coupled to the vehicle using the vehicle identification number (FIN) by entering a freely selectable Personal Identification Number (PIN). The theft protection is disabled by entering the PIN.
Software update
The navigation software and the map data can only be updated by the customer via the manufacturer's website. There is an interface in the form of a connection for universal serial bus (USB) at the Becker® MAP PILOT control unit.
