1 | Retarder | 7 | Front torsion bar
2 | Transmission | 8 | Oil temperature sensor connection
3 | Propeller shaft | 9 | Pressure sensor connection
4 | Retarder water inlet and outlet pipe | 10 | Proportional valve connection
5 | Screws | 11 | Coolant temperature sensor connection
6 | Proportional valve | A | Vehicle electronic system |
| Remove/install | ||
1 | Switch off vehicle ignition | Make sure that the auxiliary brake activation (retarder) is in the "0" (zero) position.
Carry out the work only when retarder (1) is off.
Danger | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
2 | Lift the vehicle | Lift the vehicle in an appropriate lift for the work of removing the retarder (1).
3 | Shim the retarder (1) and transmission (2) | As soon as the screws (5) are removed, both the retarder (1) and the transmission (2) will be loose and will not have lower support.
4 | Remove the front torsion bar (7) from the front axle, if necessary |
| |
Front axle stabilizer removal aims to obtain greater mobility for the removal of the retarder (1).
Warning | Risk of injury caused by touching hot retarder and by scalding from hot retarderoil. Risk of injury to skin or eyes caused by retarder oil escaping under high pressure | Do not carry out any work unless retarder is switched off. Wear suitable protective clothing and safety glasses when working on the hot retarder.
5 | Drain the oil from the retarder
| . | ||
| |||
Collect the oil in an appropriated recipient and dispose of it in Eco-friendly manner.
Installation: Fill the retarder (1) with recommended oil.
Warning | Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
6 | Drain the retarder coolant (1) |
| |
| |||
Installation: Fill the cooling system of the vehicle.
7 | Drain the transmission oil (2)
| . | ||
Partially drain the transmission oil (2).
Installation: Fill up transmission (2) using recommended oil.
8 | Remove the propeller shaft (3) between the retarder (1) and the intermediate propeller shaft mounting
9 | Remove the retarder water inlet and outlet pipe (4)
10 | Remove proportional valve connection (10)
11 | Remove the oil temperature sensor connection (8), the pressure sensor connection (9) and the coolant temperature sensor connection (11)
12 | Remove the screws (5) | Fastening stud bolt nut
Fastening stud bolt | |||
13 | Remove the retarder (1) | The retarder (1) must be transported and stored as determined by the manufacturer. The propeller shaft (3) must not support the retarder (1) or the transmission box (2), it must be protected against damage.
14 | Installation in reverse order |
