Perform a function check

 During the test, actuate the retarder several times in order to heat up the oil to operating temperature.

Actuate the retarder while vehicle is stopped

 Turn it on at position "1" and turn it off once again after 5 seconds. Repeat this procedure 2 times more.

Deactivate the retarder and wait for 5 minutes

 The vehicle must be parked on a level surface and the oil retarder has to be hot at operating temperature, about 60°C, in order to check oil level.

Remove engine lower panelling



Remove/install lower engine compartment lining

Only for model 368, 382.18.

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary.

Clean the area around the drain plugs (1, 2)

Loosen the drain plugs (1, 2)

 Collect the oil in a suitable container.

Remove oil strainer

 Clean oil strainer and blow compressed air.

 Replace the strainer if damaged.

Put the oil strainer

Tighten the oil drain plugs (1, 2)

 In case of using copper sealing ring, replace it.

 In case of plug with integrated ring, replace the plug and ring set.

Open the maintenance cover on top of the gearbox

 Check the operating instructions.

Clean the area around the filler plug (3)

Release the plug (3)

Fill up with new oil

 Accurately measure the amount of oil before refilling. Refill slowly over a 3-minute interval.

Tighten the filler plug (3)

 In case of using copper sealing ring, replace it.

 In case of plug with integrated ring, replace the plug and ring set.

Bleeding

Operate the vehicle at a speed of 50 km/h

 This procedure aims to eliminate the presence of air bubbles in the retarder internal circuit, generated during the oil filling. If this procedure is not performed, besides air leakage through the relief valve, the retarder will not function properly.

Activate the retarder, only in the first stage, for a period of 5 seconds and deactivate it immediately after

Repeat the work step "15" 4 to 5 times

Close the maintenance cover on top of the gearbox

Install engine lower panelling



Remove/install lower engine compartment lining

Perform a function check

 When changing the gear, activate the retarder at least 3 times, to ensure inner lubrication.
