7 | Attach dial indicator holder together with dial indicator to differential housing and set dial indicator tip under preload on one tooth of the ring gear | | |

8 | Check gear backlash at at least three positions offset by 120° relative to each other | Use your hand to turn the ring gear in alternate directions until you feel resistance exerted against it. Read the actual value for the gear backlash from the dial indicator. It may be necessary to set the gear backlash to the specified value. | |

9 | Set specified gear backlash value by rotating the threaded rings inward or outward | While so doing, apply light taps to the bearing caps (3) using a plastic mallet | |

It may be necessary to repeat the entire adjustment procedure (operation steps 9, 10). | |
