Remove/Install

Only open filter housing to renew filter housing!

Renew filter elements that are damaged, excessively contaminated or have already been cleaned 3 times or have been fitted for 2 years or 60 000 km.

Warm engine up to operating temperature

70 - 95 °C coolant temperature

Check red colored area in viewing window (1) of maintenance indicator

If the red colored zone in the inspection window is engaged or completely visible, press the pushbutton (2, models 460, 461) or reset button (2, model 463).

Danger!

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury as working around the engine during start-up or while running may result in contusions and burns

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving off by itself.
Wear closed and close-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

Start engine. Observe maintenance indicator at maximum rpm (gas pedal fully depressed)

Diesel engines
If the red colored zone engages, clean or replace the filter element

Gasoline engines
If the red colored zone is completely visible, replace or clean filter element

Install new air cleaner element.

Do not clean air cleaner elements without perforated plate, these must be renewed

Blow out the filter element from inside outwards with compressed air (max. 5 bar) until no more dust comes out

Do not blow directly into the filter paper pockets at short range as this can tear the glued seams of the filter pockets and allow unfiltered air to be sucked into the engine.

Hold compressed air pistol at an oblique angle to the filter paper to prevent damage.

Models 460/461:
If this cleaning process is not adequate, wash the filter element as well

Using a hand lamp, illuminate a filter element which has been cleaned and check for damage.

Ensure sealing lips are undamaged.
A damaged filter element must be replaced

Mark cleaning event (RI/RII/RIII) on the end of the air cleaner element with a waterproof marker pen.

Clean interior and sealing surfaces of the filter housing and gaskets.

Install in the reverse order

Reset maintenance indicator

To do this, operate the pushbutton (2) and reset the red colored zone.

Confirm the installation date of the new air cleaner element in the maintenance booklet
