The fuel tank consists of two-layer plastic and is divided into two chambers due to the U-shaped recess clearance.

The fuel feed module is located in the right fuel tank chamber. It consists of housing with an integrated suction jet pump, the fuel pump and the fuel level indicator sensor on the right. The housing of the fuel delivery module serves as a swirl pot. While cornering with a low level of fuel in the fuel tank, it prevents the fuel pump from drawing air.

A fuel strainer is installed as a coarse filter at the bottom in the delivery module at the feed to the fuel pump.

The closing plate with the connecting pipes, a suction jet pump and the fuel level indicator sensor are located on the left in the left fuel tank chamber.

Function

The fuel is held in the fuel tank .

The fuel pump draws the fuel from the fuel feed module through a fuel strainer. The fuel pump then pumps the suctioned fuel via the fuel filter on to the high-pressure pump.

The leak fuel from the fuel injectors, (Y76), the lubricating fuel from the high-pressure pump and the reduced fuel from the pressure regulator valve (Y74) and from the high-pressure pump returns to the fuel tank via the fuel return. Here, the returned fuel supplies both suction jet pumps.

Via the suction jet pumps in the fuel feed module, the swirl top (when fill level of fuel tank is low) is also filled with fuel from the fuel tank.

The suction jet pump in the left fuel tank chamber guarantees the left fuel tank chamber is evacuated.

Fuel tank fill level

Each fuel tank chamber has one fuel level sensor (float-and-lever sensor with two wiper contacts).

Both voltage signals are transmitted separately to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2).

This control unit processes the voltage signals and transmits a corresponding signal via the CAN databus to the instrument cluster (A1).
