Check

1

Check oil level of the engine and correct if necessary

ENGINE 133 in MODEL 117, 156, 176

2

Start engine, bring to normal operating temperature and switch off

Coolant temperature 60 to 80°C.

3

Remove cylinder head cover

4

Open service flap on fender liner in right front fender

5

Rotate engine at center bolt of the crankshaft until the cam on the valve clearance compensating element to be checked is at the base circle

Do not turn engine against direction of engine rotation.

If the roller-type cam follower (1) does not touch the cam:

Replace compensating elements

AR05.00-P-2011MT

6

Compress compensating element, to do this depress the roller-type cam follower (1) using a suitable drift (01)

Do not use a steel tool.
The surface will be damaged otherwise.

The compensating element should not be pressed together with the normal force of the hand but only very slowly when applying a strong pressure.

Check the pressure oil supply to the cylinder head if more than one compensating element is defective.

If compensating element drops too strongly:

Replace compensating elements

Install in the reverse order

Danger !

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
