Keep all ignition sources out of hazard area.
Do not carry out any work on system when it is pressurized.

No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.

Remove/install

Remove air filter housing



 While doing so, remove the air duct downstream of air filter housing and the hot film MAF sensor together with the air filter housing.
Do not remove air duct downstream of air filter housing and hot film MAF sensor from air filter housing.
Seal the opening using a rag.

Remove charge air pipe and place to one side



 To do so, remove front charge air hose and remove bolts. Do not remove rear charge air hose.

Remove hose from bracket (1)

Remove screw/bolt (2)

 Bolt, bracket for fuel filter to transmission carrier

Remove fuel filter (3) from bracket (4)

 To do so, remove bolt (5) and fold up bracket (4).

Detach electrical connection (6)

With CODE KL5 (Fuel filter with water separator)

 To do so, remove electrical connection (6) from bracket (4).

Disconnect electrical connector (7)

Remove fuel lines (8) from fuel filter (3) and remove fuel filter (3)

 For this purpose, open quick-release couplings.
Allow escaping fuel to drain into a suitable container.
Seal connections.

Install in the reverse order



Check

Switch on ignition


Switch on the ignition for at least 15 s before starting the engine to ensure that at engine start there is sufficient fuel at the high-pressure pump.
This avoids damage to the high-pressure pump.

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Start engine and check leak tightness

 Perform a visual inspection only and then switch off the engine.

Confirm replacement of the fuel filter (3) in the maintenance booklet or in the DSB
