Drive the drive pinion (12) out of axle housing and remove with compression ring (8)

 Check tapered roller bearing and replace if necessary. See: 

Pull off and press on tapered roller bearing at drive pinion.

 Replace collar nut. Never correct total friction coefficient by slackening collar nut. If the permissible total friction moment was exceeded, the compression ring must be replaced. To do this, remove drive pinion.
