Lift vehicle on vehicle lift

Open service flap on fender liner in right fender

Rotate engine at crankshaft center bolt in direction of engine rotation to top dead center (ignition TDC) on cylinder 1

 The TDC marking on belt pulley/ vibration damper must be aligned with positioning edge on timing case cover.

Mount hold-down tool (01a) for camshafts (4) with holding devices (02a, 02e) for the camshafts (4)

 Ensure use of the correct bearing bracket on the  holding device (02a, 02e).

 Vehicles with code A14(Camtronic)
Use insert with a dia. of 29 mm.

 Vehicles without code A14(Camtronic)
Use 26 mm dia. inserts.

Remove chain tensioner

Unfasten control valve (2) for the respective camshaft positioner (1)

 Installation: The thread and bolt head contact surface for the control valves (2) must be oiled. The control valve (2) must be tightened down evenly without interruption using a torque.

Remove control valve (2) for the respective camshaft positioner (1)

Remove camshaft positioner (1) from camshaft (4)

 The timing chain must be laid on or taken off for assembly or disassembly of the camshaft positioner (1).

Install in the reverse order



Check

Rotate engine at crankshaft center bolt in direction of engine rotation twice and again set to top dead center (ignition TDC) on cylinder 1

Check basic position of camshafts (4) and adjust if necessary

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
