| Remove/install | ||
1 | Open engine hood | ||
2 | Detach cover (9) of cylinder head cover (4) toward top
3 | Remove engine intake air duct upstream of air filter housing
Danger! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
4 | Drain coolant at radiator
| Notes on coolant | ||
5 | Remove housing (5) of coolant thermostat | Installation: Replace sealing ring.
| |||
6 | Remove wide band silencer (6)
7 | Remove poly-V belt (7)
8 | Remove guide pulley (8)

20 | Remove camshaft housing top section (14) | Slacken bolts in the reverse order of the tightening procedure:
Tightening procedure for camshaft housing
| |||
21 | Take out intake camshaft (1) | Installation: Oil compensation elements and camshaft bearing points. The cams on the intake camshaft (1) must be pointing upright at an angle at cylinder 1 after inserting intake camshaft (1) (risk of cracks and fracture!).
22 | Take out exhaust camshaft (2) | Pay attention that the vacuum pump is not damaged when taking out the drive.
Installation: Oil compensation elements, drive of vacuum pump and camshaft adjusters. Make sure that the drive of the vacuum pump is not damaged when inserting the exhaust camshaft (2). The cams on the exhaust camshaft (2) must be pointing upright at an angle, at cylinder (1) after inserting exhaust camshaft (2) (risk of cracks and fracture!).
23 | Remove camshaft housing bottom section (12) | Heat up the sealing compound using a heat gun, then carefully pry off the camshaft case lower section (12).
Installation: Coat sealant:
