Detach trim panel of cylinder head cover toward top

Remove engine intake air duct upstream of air filter housing

 Danger!

Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Remove screws (3a) and remove housing (3) of coolant thermostat

 Installation: Replace sealing ring.



Remove cylinder head cover

Disconnect electrical connector at camshaft exhaust solenoid (Y49/3) and camshaft intake solenoid (Y49/1)

Detach front lifting eyes (5) on right and left at cylinder head

 Screw of lifting eye to cylinder head

 Bolt, lifting eye to front cover

Detach ground line at front cover (4)



Detach front cover (4) from cylinder head

 Installation: Clean sealing surfaces.

Coat sealing surface of front cover (4) to cylinder head with sealant.



Install in the reverse order

 Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
