General
The electric differential lock is integrated in the rear axle differential.
The electric differential lock has the following advantages:
Improvement of traction
Improvement of acceleration from vehicle standstill
Improvement in driving stability when cornering
Improvement in driving stability during rapid lane changes
Increased responsiveness and more accurate handling
Function requirements
Wheel speed signal present
Drivetrain operational signal
Ignition ON (circuit 15)
Function
The multiplate clutch is operated by actuation of the electric differential lock actuator (4). Actuation of the multiplate clutch (11) compensates for differences in rotational speed of the drive wheels. The locking effect can always be adapted accordingly to the driving situation.
The electric differential lock control unit actuates the electric differential lock actuator (4). The electric differential lock actuator (4) closes the differential lock via the sprocket (5), adjustment ring (3), ball (2), ramp disk (6), needle bearing (7), thrust ring (8), thrust piece (9), pressure disk (10) and multiplate clutch (11).
The Hall sensor (4.1) integrated in the electric differential lock actuator (4) reports the position to the ESP® control unit. Likewise, the integrated temperature sensor (4.2) reports the temperature of the electric differential lock actuator (4) to the ESP® control unit.
The electric differential lock control unit permanently sends the locking ratio of the electric differential lock and the status of the electric differential lock actuator (4) to the ESP® control unit.
