Remove/disassemble range group

 The planetary gear system with shift mechanism is also removed.

Drive planet carrier (1) out of ring gear (4) (arrows)

 When doing so, use a suitable wooden support.

3.1

Remove synchronizer ring (12), synchronizer cone (7), spacer bush (6), spacer ring (15) and sliding sleeve (11)

Only on transmission without performance-optimized Voith retarder.

3.2

Remove retarder drive gear with
synchronizer ring (13), synchronizer cone (7), spacer bush (6), spacer ring (15) and sliding sleeve (11)

Only on transmission with performance-optimized Voith retarder.

Remove retaining ring (10)

Remove synchronizer body (9)

 Use the thrust piece (14) and a suitable puller.



Remove carrier ring (5) and synchronizer cone (7)

Remove annular spring (8) and detach synchronizer cone (7) from carrier ring (5)

Remove circlip (2) and ball bearing (3) from ring gear (4)

Remove planetary gears from
planet carrier (1)

Assemble

Check wear between
synchronizer cones (7) and
sliding sleeve (11)

 In the case of wear, replace the components concerned.

Insert ball bearing (3) into ring gear (4) and fit circlip (2)

Heat ball bearing (3) to approx. 80 °C and push onto planet carrier (1) together with ring gear (4)

Install carrier ring (5)

Insert annular spring (8) into synchronizer cone (7) and press into carrier ring (5)

 Check the annular spring (8) for wear; replace if necessary. Oil the annular spring (8) and synchronizer cone (7).



Heat synchronizer body (9) to approx. 80 °C and push onto ring gear (4)

 The long collar of the
synchronizer body (9) must point toward the output.

Install circlip (10).

Install spacer bush (6)

 The oil hole (arrow) of the spacer bush (6) must point toward the planet carrier (1).

Install sliding sleeve (11).

 The collar (arrow) of the
sliding sleeve (11) must point toward the output.

Insert annular spring (8) into synchronizer cone (7) and press into synchronizer ring (12)

Only on transmission without performance-optimized Voith retarder.

 Check annular spring (8) for wear and replace if necessary. Oil the annular spring (8) and synchronizer cone (7).



Insert annular spring (8) into synchronizer cone (7) and install in retarder drive gear with synchronizer ring (13)

Only on transmission with performance-optimized Voith retarder.

 Check annular spring (8) for wear and replace if necessary. Oil the annular spring (8) and synchronizer cone (7).



Heat synchronizer ring (12) to approx. 80 °C and push onto planet carrier (1)

Heat retarder drive gear with synchronizer ring (13) to approx. 80 °C and push onto planet carrier (1)

Only on transmission with performance-optimized Voith retarder.
