Remove/install

 Danger!

Risk of injury caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension

Use only approved tensioning devices; shield off hazard area if necessary.
Inspect special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection).
Wear protective gloves.

Switch off ignition

Remove soundproofing on right and at bottom

Remove coolant thermostat (5)

Take off start switch (S10)/stop switch (S11) at the coolant pump (6) and tie up at engine

As of engine end no. 109390.

 Do not disconnect electrical connector.

Detach engine wiring harness at bracket (18) and remove bracket at coolant pump (6)

As of engine end no. 109390.



Slacken belt pulley (3)

 Counterhold belt pulley.



Remove tensioning device of high-speed fan drive poly-V belt

 Only on vehicles with code (ML3) high-speed fan drive with belt drive.

Slacken poly-V belt of generator (1) and remove tensioning device of generator poly-V belt from tensioner pulley

 Installation: Inspect condition of poly-V belt, replace if necessary.

Observe poly-V belt routing plan.

Remove belt pulley (3)

10.1

Take off fan drive at the support (17) and turn to the side

 Only on vehicles with code (ML1) high-speed fan drive.



Detach support (16) at coolant pump (6)

 Only on vehicles with code (ML1) high-speed fan drive.



11.1

Disconnect electrical connector of electromagnetic fan clutch (15) at the support (16)

 Only on vehicles with code (MZ5) electromagnetic fan drive (Linnig clutch).

11.2

Take off electromagnetic fan clutch (15) and support (16) at the coolant pump (6) and turn to the side

 Only on vehicles with code (MZ5) electromagnetic fan drive (Linnig clutch).



Detach coolant line (8) at coolant pump (6)

 Only if torque converter clutch or retarder fitted.

 Installation: Replace seal (7).



Detach coolant line (13) at coolant pump (6)

Collect coolant which flows out.

 Installation: Replace seal (12).



Remove coolant pump (6) and remove gasket (11)

 Installation: Replace seal (11).



Clean sealing surfaces at crankcase and at coolant pump (6)

Install in the reverse order
